PLEASE USE A DESCRIPTIVE TITLE, if you want people to click on your thread.

Thanks,

The Management

For some reason, there's been a spate of them.

Well, "how annoying is this" got me to click on it much better than "use a descriptive title" would have.

What the heck! You expect us to engage our brains when we start a thread.

Talk about being demanding.

annoy?

How annoying is WHAT? The little "Twilight Zone" dots? Many photographs? Busy format? Garish colors? I've seen worse. This is the Internet, you know. Take a gander at the Greater Los Angeles Press Photographers Association web site. Wow and zow.

posts in the classified section that do not have a prefix of FS/FT etc should be deleted or otherwise made to conform to the rules. Nothing more annoying then a huge new post list with so many misleading titles.... PLEASE....
Interestingly enough i have just posted the exact same complaint in LFPF....

I totally agree about FS/FT/WTB, and at some point we added it to the instructions, but most people don't really read them when they post. It seems like there should be a way of automating that, since we have separate forums for each of those, but maybe it would require additional coding.

David,
You are so right. I've taken to hovering over a title to read the first para of the post so that I can get a feel for the intent of the post... as the titles are mostly useless. The title of this thread, although it appears to be an example of uselessness at first glance, actually does capture the intent of the thread. I clicked on it (mostly because I trust your posts and titles), and was not disappointed.

"Sad News," "This is awesome!" and "Quandary" are all thread titles that appeared on APUG today.

Folks, please use a descriptive title.

Due to a poorly descriptive title I ended up in a quandary because of the sad news of my missing an awesome thread...

Hey, wait a minute. Six hundred and seventeen individual camera plans? I thought it was all about a single plan to make a 6x17 format camera??

A DESCRIPTIVE TITLE

There. I followed David's instructions to the letter.

Seriously though, descriptive titles are very helpful. Few things are more irritating when trying to figure out what to read and what to skip than having bad metadata (data about data). And a title is in fact metadata.

It might be helpful if the person who started a thread was able to edit the title. More than once I've had second thoughts about the title I put on a thread.

I think the title should be editable within the post editing time frame. I'm not sure how long Sean has set that at.

I think that one is allowed to edit the title in the advanced edit mode.
