The pics are posted in the Gallery, so I don't believe you can see them unless you're a subscriber ..

Hey Spiralcity?

Want to get the first camera and be part of that tour? If so, I suggest you send your name and address to Rombo via PM.

See this link for details: (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

If you join in, you'll then need to send the camera to Nicole in Australia.

Regards, Art.

I'll need to become a paying member before I get onboard this project.

First off, pay up. The membership is more than worth it, trust me. There is no other site like this, well maybe there is but I don't belong to it.

Second. I have proposed using a Cannon SureShot 38-85mm camera with ASA 100 B&W film in it. I will donate the camera, load it with film, put fresh batteries in it, and develop it when it gets back. I would then upload the photos, and send all participants their negative. All I need from gr82bart is some tips on how to set up the management of the list.

Interested?

I have received the camera today aaalll the way from Rombo in Slovenia. Peter thank you very much! There are still 6 or 7 frames left. Seems a shame to waste them. Let me know if anyone wants to join in so we can keep this thing moving.

Tim,

These APUGer organized events are real simple. How good are you at herding cats with rabid dogs barking in the background? Real simple. All kidding aside - but just barely.

How to organize a "Shoot One Camera Trip" for dummies ... (Sorry Tim, couldn't resist)
  1. Buy a disposable camera - B&W, colour, whatever you want, it's your baby
  2. Start a new thread
  3. Call in "Shoot One Camera Trip #5"
  4. Ask people to sign up in the thread.
  5. Ask them to send via Private Message (PM) their real name and mailing address
  6. Set a deadline of about 30-45 days after for people to sign up and PM you, or the number of frames in the camera (don't forget to include yourself in the count!), whichever comes first
  7. Ask people to indicate whether they are willing to send the camera overseas - this costs more and they need to know how to fill in the customs forms properly
  8. When you get all the names and addresses, create a route that minimzes the number of times the camera has to cross a border - this includes US state borders and Canadian provinces too!
  9. Publish the route - make sure you state their handle in the published route
  10. Print out everyone's names and addresses in the order of the route and include that with the camera.
  11. Package the camera and the route and send it off
  12. Monitor and regularly communicate the progress of the trip in the thread - takes about a year if everything goes smoothly, longer if not
  13. You'll have to make adjustments as you see fit during the camera's trip, if necessary
  14. That's pretty much it
When you get the camera for the current trip #4, take a look at the instructions I included with the camera. That should help - I think.

Since you volunteered to organize, you also volunteered to be the last person to get the camera at the end of the trip (kind of ensures you stick around, unlike previous organizers). This means you'll have to process the film, post the images in the APUG gallery, and make any arrangements with anyone that wants reprints or their negative frame.

Hmmm ... now that I think about it, this is one way to organize a trip. Another way is to do this is "on the fly" that I just thought of, but I personally wouldn't recommend anyone try that, 'less they're masochists.

Regards, Art.

  1. Art,

You saw the changes I plan to your instructions. A SureShot costs about 10 bucks these days on EBay and I have an extra one I have tested and know works, no one has done a B&W We all shoot the same camera", I am very proficient at developing B&W film, I think sending everyone their negative at the end is a nice touch.

See any holes in my plan? The rest of yours I am going to print out and use as the Bible for dummys like me.

P.S. I have 4 cats, two dogs, two parrots, and a couple dozen fish. We can handle the menagerie.

You bring tears to my eyes ... the grasshopper is becoming the master. Your mojo is strong and I see great success in the future.

Hi Nicole,

I would love to join in! Are you willing to send to US? Just paid my apug subscription by cc, so should be active soon. If there is still room in this round let me know and I will send my address via pm.

Thanks!

Lisa, Be aware this is not a Round 5 of "Let's all shoot the same camera", it's round 1 (A, B, or C???). They had some... problems.

Round five sign ups might start next week. As Art has pointed out, it takes a short sustained burst of energy, then a long period of herding cats. I might have a break next week to get this organized.
