You're making the mistake of basing all decisions only on what you can see now, in front of you.

But you can't perceive what MIGHT be to come...having a book, having something that you can hold and say "I did this", is one way to bring a few more interesting things your way in the future.

Sounds cliche, but you just never know. And why pretend you do? Go for it, and cross the other bridges when you get to them. If nothing else, the book could be something you use to get to something else down the road you want to do.

You've had two good ideas already: Suzanne's to get a good editor, and Goldie's "New Greek Photography" (or whatever title fits) to share the book with other photographers you like and who would also like an opportunity to publish.
Go for it, and keep us informed on how you're getting on.

Thank you for taking the time and giving me so much heart felt advice.
I do regret talking that way about myself, some of it is honest, some it is the depression and panic talking, but in any way, such a public display of self contempt and such an aggressive language is not possibly a good PR strategy. Nevertheless, one cannot accuse me for being dishonest or insensitive.
Truth is that my photographic career has been a constant bumpy ride and since it is very much affected by my psychological state and my environment, it has no clear smooth sailing in sight.
Anyway, regarding the book, it will be decided when I have my review of photographs done by myself and atleast one photography teacher I very much trust his judgement since he has published many books, personal and of his students.
I hope at least this thread will offer some insight and inspiration to others that have found themselves in similar circumstances and won't be just a negative testament of my character.

It's not often that you can have a job that is semi-enjoyable. Chances don't come around all that often either.

And not only that, but if you think about it, at least you are a photographer. Most people wouldn't know where to start to make a nice picture at all. So don't make your work worth less then it is because there's 1 or two big dog photographers up at the top fluffing their feathers trying to crowd you out.

Hey if it helps one other depressed soul out there, it's worth it. More then likely, it'll help more then just 1 person. And maybe it'll help in your own healing process as well. More then likely there is a reason for you to be where your at right now so make the most of it. Hard work is therapeutic. It's the only thing I really believe in.

Not only that, but it may lead to more opportunities down the road, and talent gets better with practice. Hey, everyone had to start someplace.

Free advice (worth every penny).

Do the book deal. Get the best editor you can find. Hire a publicist. Get over your personal modesty and self-doubts. Take off those silly goggles and get a tan.
