Horizon 202 Repair

I just got given a Horizon 202 camera that doesn't seem to work. The shutter button won't depress at all and the film advance/shutter cocking level will barely move. The film rewind button on the bottom of the camera is pressed in and won't come out.

Got any ideas?

I have searched google for solutions, repair manuals, and repair shops. Nothing promising so far.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I read Horizon uses a watch mechanism to drive the gear train , if you can find a watch repairman , here you go.

How to Fix Your Horizon’s Stuck Shutter

For some reason, most likely due to a mechanical shock, the shutter of your Horizon camera got stuck. Do not despair for you’re about to find out how to fix it.
What you will need:

1. A Horizon camera with a stuck shutter
2. A small screwdriver
3. Pliers
4. Small scissors (if like me, you don’t own a proper spanner wrench)

First, using the scissors as a spanner wrench, unscrew the bubble level.

Then remove the winding lever. To do so, start by unscrewing the little screw hidden under it. This will free the plastic cover of the lever. Then unscrew the flat-headed screw holding the lever CLOCKWISE (!) using your scissors. Remove the lever and unscrew the hollow screw that was under it.

Part II:

Unscrew the shutter button using pliers.

Unscrew all 6 screws holding the camera’s front (2 screws) and back (4 screws) plastic covers.

Loosen the two rings under the camera, no need to remove them entirely.

You can now remove the back plastic cover of your camera. It is tricky and you should go smoothly without forcing too much. Pull the left hand-side of the cover while sliding rightwards, pushing a part of the cover under the hinges of the door (that’s where some resistance will come from).

Pull on one of the hinges to remove the door.

To remove the front cover, pull on it while pressing on the rewind button to help it pass under the cover.

You’re Horizon is now naked. I guess you can fix other problems than a stuck shutter at this point, but you’ll probably need to refer to the exploded view of the camera that was provided with it.Your shutter gets stuck when the little lever marked ‘A’ in the photo is not properly pushed when you crank the winding lever. Using a small screwdriver, lift and push lever ‘A’ to its GOOD position as shown on the right hand-side of the photo. To avoid this from reoccurring, press and bend lever ‘A’ downwards as much as you can. When lever ‘A’ is in the good position, the shutter button is freed and can be pressed as before.

Worked on it tonight and seems okay so far. Tomorrow I will load some film into it and find out for sure.

It was a lot easier than I thought.
