Homemade shutter update.

Alright, I just developed two portraits shot with my homemade shutter, in a 1/25 estimated slit.

Unfortunately, both frames are fogged out of recognition. Actually, there's a little detail to be seen, but it's mostly two black negs. Two things may be to blame. One is the use of a white shutter board. I was too lazy to paint it black, but that's fixed now. Another potential problem is an open waterhouse slot on the lens. I remember noticing the "door" open on the side of my 305 Apo-Nikkor after taking the shots, but I thought nothing of it. Could it allow enough light to fog the frames?

I'll re-test the shutter later this week and see what happened, but this was a disapointment. I started thinking about this shutter more and more. 55 bucks is somewhat justifiable, and this could be a better solution than a packard (afterall, this could work in other than vertical positions).

Well, I guess I'll just make mine work...

I'd worry a lot more about the white shutter board than the open Waterhouse stop slot (though a strip of black masking tape is cheap insurance). A can of Krylon Ultra Flat Black costs about the same as three sheets of name brand 4x5...

Yeah, I already had a can of black primer, which worked well enough. I'm going to shut the waterhouse slot with tape to be sure, and hopefully that and the painted slots will work...
