HOMEMADE BULB FOR CONDENSER ENLARGER

Since the purchased bulbs had issues（https://www.photrio.com/forum/threads/dr-fischer-bulb-quality-is-doubtful.210737/#post-2853544）, I attempted to make these bulbs myself. Here are my attempts. I will conduct uniformity tests over the weekend after the paint has dried completely.

This approach might work fine -- I assume you are using a standard household light bulb. You don't say -- but if there is an inscription on the top of the bulb, it still might show through.

I don't quite under stand your problem, however. The original problem might have been a bad bulb or your enlarger or how they were used together. If there is a problem other than the bulb, your new approach might not solve the "problem". Some enlarger heads allow you to position the bulb. Does yours?

Even though the paint is white, it has some opacity. If the paint thickness isn't even all around, you might end up with some hot spots.

Right, I get that. I see that it's VHT Engine Enamel, which has a minimum 20-min. @ 200°F cure - if not slightly longer and hotter, in my opinion - so I was just curious if you were going to suspend it and bake it, or just turn it on and let it cook for awhile, or what.

There is some possibility the bulb will crack if left on too long. Your paint may constrict uniform expansion as the temperature rises, if it's expansion rate is different than the glass. It may also just flake off. But it'll likely be fine. Good luck.

you are right, The smell becomes very unpleasant when the temperature rises, I stop test

What enlarger are you using? I just use a cheap LED bulb in my Focomat and Omega D2. There's no writing on it and it's fairly opaque plastic - the light is pretty even.

Hi there, where do you get the bulbs I am looking for a bulk source of P213's. 250w.

I've never heard of P213 250w bulbs, but I suppose some people would want them. I usually prefer the weaker P211 75w bulbs because I like the longer exposure times. I'll have to check into that.

I just checked. Lots of places sell the PH213 250w bulb from $25 to $45.

The distance the bulb outer glass globe will be means the imprint on the top of the glass will be so far out of focus means it will be insignificant

The reason to move the bulb is to accommodate different condensers which may have a different focal length to ensure the illumination is uniform. The writing on the bulb will be still out of focus.
