With the film reels in a one litre Paterson tank, after HCA I give it a ten minutes wash in water that is flowing steadily but very slowly - about a litre every two minutes.

Sorry to ask for more.
When using the HCA, do you soak the film for awhile, or just agitate ti for a minute and then proceed with your described process.?

For HCA I follow Kodak's directions - first a one minute rinse in flowing water, followed by one - two minutes in HCA, agitating for 5 seconds every 30 seconds.
That agitation scheme is the same as Kodak recommends for developer.

but the question iso you rally need HCA for film or RC paper, since there are no fibers for the hypo to clinc to in the first place. especially for RC papers,there is such a thing as 'overwashing'.

HCA is outstanding at getting the purple out of Kodak TMAX films.
I tone all my RC prints in Selenium 25% per Kodak, I fix for 60 seconds in fresh 1:4 KODAK RAPID FIX w/Hardener, rinse for 15 seconds then right into the toner for 3 to 5 minutes, rinse, into fresh HCA for a minute, wash in running water for 2 minutes, dry on a Ilfospeed dryer.

My FB routine is complicated, I do a bit of selenium followed by Kodak Blue toner (gold toner) lots of washing, a hardener step to keep the prints from sticking to my dryer......
