HIE - get it while you can!

A seller on That Auction Site has an unopened, always-subfrozen, last-batch box of 20 HIE135-36 for a mere $1100 opening bid (or if you want to make sure you scoop it up before anyone else does, you can Buy It Now for a mere $1550.)

I dare say if it sells for that much, perhaps it would be worth Kodak cranking up production again! No bids so far though...

I stopped worrying about this when freestyle started carrying the Efke IR820 recently - this version has NO anit-halation layer just like HIE and looks identical. Identical in the aesthetic characteristics as HIE - god knows if it would produce the same image side by side but you never were quite sure about HIE either.

Try it - it is cheap - plentiful and comes in just about every format you can imagine - this guy probably tried it and said "To hell with the HIE - I will get some idiot to buy it that doesn't know about the IR820"

As far as the Efke - I assume it's the "Aura IR820" version that's the HIE equivalent, as opposed to the older IR820 with the anti-halation backing?

I got given some EIR and HIE, its in the fridge

There was a limited run of EIR in 16mm motion picture, custom order for some film as well, not sure if it went a head, a lot of the film got resold.

I just received a roll of 35mm HIE that cost me the princely sum of £5. Now if I could just find EIR in 35mm at a reasonable price.

A few weeks ago HIE was selling, in some instances, in the $50/roll range, some near $60. Not asking prices, but realized prices.

I sold several rolls with 2007/2008 dates for £25/roll recently, but the one I sold on eBay went for a lot less.

Rollei Retro 80S, 400S, Rollei Super Pan 200 are sensitized till 750nm. Rollei IR 820-400 till 820nm like the Efke IR films.
So when trying new NIR films you can start with Eur. 3,00 instead of Eur. 30,-. HIE is rediculous overpriced now. And you may hope it's still good when buying.

I remember when it was announce HIE was discontinued, a roll of HIE sold for 150.00 on eBay.

I've seen bricks of HIE sell for $1100-1200 on Epay, so it's not totally out of line, price-wise. Someone will probably pay it. (Not me!)

Considering my brick cost me close to $250 on the day it was discontinued, I can see people paying $1000 for it. Especially if it's still sealed in the box and was frozen the whole time.

There is a guy who posts on the local craigslist boards in my area that regularly sells rolls of HIE for $200 a roll.

I really hope nobody buys it for that amount. I mean HIE was a great film and all but the Efke version is great too and looks almost the same and its a heck of a lot cheaper than that.

Oh sorry, there seems to be an unwritten rule around here about saying the name of That Auction Site... and posting auction numbers is pointless when they are accessible for 60 days, and this site is accessible for years. But here it is, if you catch it quick (and you have to be logged in these days to see completed auctions...)
