It's impressively brazen to steal someone else's real intro post! I suppose it would be wise to keep an eye out for whatever username he returns as after being deleted or banned.

I presume that returning "incognito" so speak by changing a few details about yourself is not as easy as a luddite such as myself imagines it to be. At least I hope so

In technical terms, it is. There are mild barriers but nothing impervious. In real life though, I think a scammer will give himself away pretty quickly, hopefully without ensnaring anyone new.

The fact is, it would take almost no effort to become knowledgeable enough to write a few dozen replies in threads that no one would question. The fact that a scammer like this one didn't shows how impatient they are to get what they want. But there will be some that are more convincing on the forum front.

Well, I found and reported in the past new members with postings that at least as a whole were suspicious.

What was new with this one is that he posted even an introduction. But even this, already on its own, was realised as fake, by Winger.

So we are not that unalert...

So we are not that unalert

No. Just unalert enough that you and I and however many other people spotted this guy as a probably scammer, reported him, yet he still managed to get money from at least two people. Now imagine how much he could get if he spend a week writing coherent posts in a few threads.

This for a part may be the result of no 24/7 moderation. But do we want this?

I mean even with some of us being professionals, this basically is a site of fellows of same interest. Nothing more.
You made a good proposal with that "automatic on-hold" idea. To me this the best as we can get, next to being alert.
Alert too at using the classifieds, and there already had been many warnings the last months.

The point of what I was saying is that a potential scammer (getting sick of that word) could do a better job at not seeming like a scammer, with very little effort, and the fact that they don't points to their impatience (and likely also to the fact that they're attempting to scam numerous such sites, not strictly limited to photography).

And my point was, that's life. Do we want Photrio as a fortress, with paid controllers? And maybe they fail even too.

Likely we even point at the same, just with other wording.

Spammers and scammers are a constant fact of life, sadly. With the prices of film gear always rising we are only likely to see such attempts increasing too.

I don't think having a month's membership would filter out problem people. If someone wants to steal something, waiting for the right moment is part of the game.

For 70+ years my plan has always been to trust everyone but keep one hand on my wallet. It works well, but there are no guarantees in life (except that pesky death thing).

They lack the patience. And they are not interested in actually working for what they get. A month also is a more significant amount of time for someone to show themselves as possibly fraudulent.

People running scams on this website like the one this guy did are probably doing the same thing on numerous websites at the same time, with plans to come back to this website with a new username in a few weeks or a month.

Waiting isn't something they're willing to do.

They want to scam us for our money and they want it now! I agree.

Hi my name is Larry. I am new. please could someone tell me how to post a picture in line with my posting. So far I have only been able to put an icon for the image in the posting, which the viewer has to click on. Also how do I post in the gallery? Thank you. Larry
