Hello !

I've just registered, then let me introduce. I'm Tom,23 yo. I come from France, (so I'll manage to speak English correctly) and even if I don't speak english very well, I found this forum pretty interesting and I hope you will welcome me. I usually do digital photography (I'm a complet beginner, it's only been 2 months that I photo shoot) but I'm dying to do film based photography =)

If you want to have a look to my portfolio, there it is : http://www.flickr.com/photos/tomdanesi/

Well ... Hi everyone ! =)

Welcome. Checked out your other gallery and there is some good pics. Now I can't wait until you put some film shots up. Take care and have fun with the filmers.

Next door in Stuttgart, Germany.

Thank you loads ! I'm completely dying to start shooting with film camera, I can't even wait ! Beyond, because I don't have a full frame digital camera, (canon APS-C crops), my 16mm fisheye, will be a REAL 16mm !!
By the way, do you know if we can put any fish eye lens on medium format camera ?

I still have a question : As I'm leaving to london next monday, I was wondering how are the electrical receptacle round there. Because I've got french battery charger, for my camera, mobile and stuff. Do you know if it is pretty hard to get an adapter from FR to UK receptacle ?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can get a fisheye lens for MF, but expect to give up the soul of your first born.

You should be able to purchase a travel power adaptor from just about anywhere (maybe even find one on Oxford Street). The power it's self should be compatible, EDF supplies quite a bit of electricity to the UK.

Enjoy your stay in London.

Hi Tom,

Welcome from the Netherlands!

Nice shots you have there! Just a few questions about the techniques you use: I noticed you sometimes used an off-camera flash to the left and right of your subject. Now these were taken in broad daylight, so how did you trigger your flash and determine flash exposure?

E.g. did you use some radiofrequency wireless flash trigger, as the on-camera flash is unlikely to reliably trigger a remote flash in such daylight situations? Or did you connect the remote flash to your camera using a flash cable?

And did you use TTL flash exposure, or just a fixed burst (I think you wrote somewhere "full power", so fixed burst?)

And lastly, how did you support the remote flash, just a friend carrying it, or did you take a tripod or other support with you?

Hi,
well , You guessed it well. I use off camera flash. When I don't use it above the cam, I use a Cactus v4 radio trigger. The V2 version was failing a lot ( didn't flash each time) but now this one is fixed. It's a really cheap one, but it works pretty well ! http://www.gadgetinfinity.com/product.php?productid=17205&cat=274&page=1

It use the flash in manual mode, i got the choice between full power M, 1/2, 1/4 or 1/16. So I usually got to do several attempts to get the settings well done.

And finaly to hold the flash, it's up to the situation. Sometimes, I use a tripod, sometimes I asked someone to hold it, or I hold it by myself, so you can get it closer from the guy you want to shoot.

Hope I helped =)

Thx, I'll try to find one there then. We also are in 220V, so I think I just have to find a adaptator.
