Alas the snow is gone, and I've run out of "indoor ideas". Time to get outside.
Hi everybody- my name is Tim and I was bit by the photo bug quite some time ago, but have just been getting back into things over the past year (stimulated by an EOS Elan 7E for a wedding gift and a honeymoon in Greece). I am essentially self- taught, through reading (books and web), and pestering my fine friends down at the local photo shop. I just learned of APUG 2 days ago (a godsend, after feeling *quite* in the minority at Photo.net, which is a great site, but also quite biased) and have been devouring the past posts all day. There is defintely a wealth of information here and I look forward to learning more. I plan to subscribe soon, and I start my 1st official Photography course in 4 days.

Warm, Spring greetings from Montreal. Nice to see another canadian on the board. Enjoy your stay....

Welcome from another Canadian. Just lost the ice off the lake in front of my place last week. Had a sauna last night and went for a SHORT swim. Still have two little bumps under my chin...

Lots of nice people here. Enjoy.

Rick.

Welcome from another Pegger Tim!

APUG is a great place to discuss all aspects of the sweet science of traditional photography. PrairieView School of Photography in Winnipeg offers a number of courses from traditional darkroom work to large format to alternative processes. You will find quite a few APUG'ers there. Check us out if you haven't already.

Cheers,

CraigK

Hi Tim, Welcome. Winnipeg has a lot to offer photgraphically speaking. Prairieview, the guys over at Photo Central and The Lab Works to name a few. Also the Exchange District for tons of photo ops.
Any other Manitobans going to the Conference?

John in Brandon

Hi John. PhotoCentral is great. I spend alot of time down there, and they process all my film. I'm too fresh to know about the conference, but if it isn't in winnipeg I'm probably not going

Welcome from Regina.

Maybe we should have a regional APUG gathering sometime, in Winnipeg perhaps? There seems to be a lot of you here and the handful of us in Saskatchewan could get there for a weekend easily enough...

Welcome aboard.... I grew up about 100 miles south of you in Grand Forks so I understand the seasons a bit! You'll like this place as it's helpful, normally peaceful and a great resource for the analog'ers among the throngs!

If you have an APUG gathering in the 'peg, count me in. Easy 7 hour drive from Thunder Bay.

Sweet- you could bring my cousin-in-law with you. He's actually in a photoclub out there. Wait a minute...... I forgot he shoots dig.

Hmmm....an APUG get-together in Winnipeg?

Sounds like a GREAT idea!

I am going to the APUG conference in Toronto as are a few other Peggers I know. I will see if we can hatch a plan while we are there. It would be great to meet fellow analogers from all over the Prairies and beyond. I would certainly be willing to offer PrairieView's facilities for the event. I am sure that Photo Central and Labworks will want to take part as well.

Thanks for the great idea....the mental gears are now in motion!

Eeeeeexcellent (rubbing hands together)

Ok, so the wife asked me what was burning...

I had to admit that it was an overheated thinking cap due to thoughts of an APUG gathering in Winnipeg.

So, fellow APUG'ers from anywhere, anytime: What makes for a great gathering? I'm thinking a workshop or three, demo's, exhibits, print exchange, single malt tasting sessions...what am I missing?

I really like where you're going with this.

Welcome aboard APUG  from the moist, cloud enshrouded, dripping rainforest on BC's north coast where it was once said by a visitor from the prairies, "Nice place, but the mountains get in the way of the view".
