Hi, I was introduced to this site by a friend at the weekend and it's already solved a problem I had with my wife's Box Brownie - not bad going in a few short days!
I'm a landscape photographer (mainly) who got into photography about four years ago when I bought a DSLR (boo, hiss!) The DSLR was a great tool for learning photography but as my skills grew I soon recognised its limitations and moved to a Mamiya 7II which is still my main camera. Like many landscape photographers I've grown to see in Velvia and the world around me has changed as I see new things and new ways of looking at the most prosaic of daily sights. I now write fairly regularly for Amateur Photographer magazine (UK readers may have seen my recent article on shooting landscapes at dawn in winter) and sell images through my website and through a couple of stock agencies.
I've become a bit of a camera addict - it's a slippery slope. I bought a Nikon FM2n as a more portable camera and I love its mechanical simplicity and the results that I get with Ilford XP2 and SFX (is it really coming back?) and it's just great for astrophotography through my TMB 130mm f/7 super apochromatic refractor telescope.
Then I bought a Contax TVS as a carry everywhere camera to use with Fuji Provia 400. And most recently I picked up an ancient Linhof Technika 6x9 on eBay. I've now roped my Dad into making me a lens panel to mount my Schneider Super Angulon 65 5.6 as I can't find any at a reasonable price anywhere - anyone know of a source?
And speaking of my Dad, he's just given me a couple of enlargers and a rather beautiful and very old half plate Gandolfi which is wonderful to look at and hold even if I'm not sure what to do with it! Since I now have an enlarger I'm about to embark on a new voyage of discovery by printing my own B&W enlargements and this forum seems like just the place to learn more about this exciting next step in my photographic learning experience.
I look forward to interacting with you.
