Hi,
I live in Oslo and definitely belong to the 'hobby' or 'amateur' category. I use and enjoy analog as well as digital, but the digital part is of course irrelevant in this (APUG) context. A nice thing with film is that it's actually possible to do something without having to fire up the PC... To be able to hold and (hopefully) admire the original picture as a physical negative or positive is also very appealing.

I shoot 35mm (Olympus OM), medium format (Mamiya) and have just started to play with large format (an old Omega 4x5). Anybody noticed that analog equipment has become more affordable lately? :D

I'm doing mainly B&W, with a few rolls of color slides thrown in once in a while. Improving my B&W pictures is currently my number one goal. While good B&W pictures can be really striking, the not-so-good ones are often equally boring. I don't like boring pictures, but still make way too many of them. Magic formulas wanted

Contact printing LF negatives seems like a lot of fun, and is on top of my have-to-try-it list. Although 4x5 may be a little small for this purpose, it's a place to start (don't know if I like the implication of that statement... I have heard rumours of a strange phenomenon called '8x10' or something like that; probably a disease of some sort).

Welcome to APUG Knut, I already know I'm going to like your sense of humor!

You got that right and as far as I can tell it is a progressive incurable disease the pain of which can only be eased by aquiring more and more lenses (see Jim Galli) and for really serious cases the graduation to ever larger formats! (see Ole)

Welcome Knut. You will find a lot of interesting ideas and I'm sure you will learn alot. You may even trash the digital camera when you find out what analog photography is truly capable of.

Velkommen Knut!

8x10" is indeed a disease, only curable by infection with the ULF virus. 30x40cm, anyone? :D
