Hello Photrio. I am a landscape and nature photographer based in Norway and I am going for a trip to Spain. Hoping to get in touch with any photographer based on the North Shore of Spain (Bilbao, Santander, Gijon etc...)

Will travel to Bilbao and rent a car to get around for five days in february, in the search for great landscape compositions and some stunning nature. Would love to get in touch with anyone who might have some good travel ideas or anyone who would like to have a chat about photography!

Hi, Håkon. I'm. British and live about 20 km west of Gijón (Gijón is also home to https://www.foto-r3.com/en ) The north coastal region has a wealth of landscape opportunities and I´d be happy to give you any advice I can. Get ready for howls of rage from the Galicians that you forgot to mention.

That is awesome! Thanks for a quick reply  I see you shoot film, that's nice. I actually shoot digital, both dslr and drone, myself. Just really happy to be in contact with another photographer.

At per now I am going to travel along the coast line for some seascapes and good sunsets and I might go further in the country to shoot some astro pictures and Picos de Europa. Do you have any recommendations on locations?

If you want some mountains and alpine scenery, there's Covadonga as long as the roads are open in February, which is about 80 km east of Gijón. Or a little further east,Poncebos particularly for tje mountain known as the Naranjo de Bulnes and for a trek along the Cares Gorge. Gijón itself is a rather industrial city and a seaside resort in Summer. Coastal fishing villages are too many to name, but I'd recommend close to where I live Cudillero which has some Viking history https://www.pandotrip.com/cudillero-a-lovely-village-established-by-the-vikings-in-asturias-spain-17974/

How amazing, I added both Cavadonga and Cudillero to my list now, they both look like great places, very photogenic indeed. Hope I have the time to visit Cudillero at least!
Thank you for such great tips, have you lived in Gijón for a long time? Seems like you have great knowledge about the North Shore :D

I've lived in the small town of Avilés, just west of Gijón, for the past 30 years. I've visited most of the picturesque parts but some of them rather long ago when my legs were more capable.:surprised:
I posted a link to this thread on a Spanish analogue forum. Lets see if you get a few more replies.

Both of you are being very helpful, this forum is amazing!
The island was actually on my list early on, looking forward to that place. Seems like it is going to be an intense journey visiting all these places in only five days! Hehe
