My name is Lorenzo, and I'm a photo student currently shooting 35 and working in a b&w darkroom (both mostly supported by my school). Very new to it all, started properly shooting around February maybe. Very excited to tap into the absolute wealth of knowledge y'all have collected here.
Any advice for stepping into the realm of medium format?

Welcome. Learn all you can about the “process” which involves exposure, developing, and printing. Stick to one film and one camera for a while until your work is repeatable. Then check with the school to see if they have a medium format camera to borrow. The process side will be essentially the same.

What kind of classes are you in? Is the program more technical/commercial or artistic in its approach?

The class I'm in right now is geared towards those who already have a pretty solid handle on the basics of composition and the artistic aspect, and is primarily about giving those people actual access to a darkroom.

Go for Hasselblad. The service and part supply is good. Lots of lenses to choose. The price will always go up so save money by buying now.

Not 100% certain at the moment, probably 100-200. But who knows, maybe I really fall in love with the fabled medium format "look" and decide to sink some more cash into it

Two separate issues.
First, we have added some anti-spam and anti-scam protections that keep new registrants from participating in the classifieds until their post count indicates that they are here for other reasons than those two activities. That low post count "switch" can be dealt with manually by request.
Second, posting your images in the galleries requires you to be a paid subscriber - it isn't very expensive, and it helps fund the site.
The other advantage of being a paid subscriber is that it allows you to start threads in the Classifieds, which means you can sell things here, or post want-to-buy threads.
In lolbertbread's case, with his/her/their low post count, it would make more sense to post a few more times in the threads (~15 or so) to get rid of the low post prohibitions, or to make a request that their prohibitions be removed.

score! picked up a yashica mat-124g after class today, practically mint.

thanks for your specific recs, but im actually in the states at present ill definitely keep these in mind next time i'm in the old country
