I was reading a book about photography in the Victorian period and learned that Queen Victoria's husband Prince Albert was quite a shutter bug... he even had a darkroom constructed at Windsor castle.

Does anyone know if there is still a darkroom there?

I understand that Queen Elizabeth carries on the tradition of royal photography. I saw a photo of her the other day shooting with her Leica, (not sure which model) and started to wonder about her photos. Does she shoot slide or print film, colour or black and white? One would think she shoots Ilford for B+W:smile:. Does she make her own prints or send them to the local one hour lab? Is there a royal printer? does she she have a flickr account:tongue:

There is quite a tradition of photography in the royal family.

Armstrong Jones was an exceptionally good portrait photographer.
Lichfield was more into advertising and commercial. He shot Pirrelli calendars.

I hear that many rooms in Windsor were blacked out. However, that may just have been soot from the fire:D

I remember seeing an article on Prince Andrew with his 8x10, along with a couple of his contact prints in a British magazine from some time in the early 80's. I think his camera was a Gandolfi, but I can't be sure.

Somehow, I would have thought she would prefer to shoot a Diana, or at least a Meg. Just a thought. Cheers!

Queen Elizabeth is very keen on photography, I know for sure that she has shot black and white as I have printed 2 images for her.

I thought Prince Charles had a Diana, but he got rid of it and got a Horseman. :D

LOL...

warning: Royal Joke.

On the day of their wedding, Prince Charles and Camilla cheked into the wedding night hotel.
The receptionist asked: Would you like the Bridal suite?
Camilla replied: Don't called me sweet and I can manage holding onto his ears thankyou.

Stephen, looking at your location you sure that was Queen Elizabeth II and not Priscilla Queen of the desert?

PE you'll be tried for treason for your remark. Besides everyone knows that Camilla's only a show pony

Old Nag would have come to mind more readily:D

Talking about a different sort of Queen...guitarist Brian May (of Queen, of course) is a 3-D stereo photograph fan. He often posts images on his site from time to time. And he's also recently picked up his PhD in Astronomy. Way to go, Bri...

From my old university, no less. One of the more awful ideas of the Student Union while I was there being to put a statue of Brian May up in Beit Quad - presumably as a monument to what you could achieve by not finishing your studies or something; it was never terribly clear. Fortunately Imperial's SU was considerably less right-on than many and the idea died the death it deserved...

Here's Her Maj. with an earlier camera.
