I have an L-758DR in excellent condition but for a minor, developing problem. The top of the jog wheel (see image) is coming loose and I expect will eventually come off, maybe soon. The question is, what's the best way to repair this? If I remove it, and apply a little glue, will that do the trick, or is this more complicated? If it isn't a simple issue, is there somewhere I can get the necessary parts?

The top of the wheel identified in red in the attached image is coming loose. On diagrams of the meter, it's Part A7.

Thanks

Welcome to Photrio!

I'd start by disassembling the meter to inspect the nature of the defect. The jog wheel is virtually guaranteed to be a rotary encoder. The actual wheel is a plastic cap that fits over this component and if it comes loose, this suggests it may have developed a crack somewhere. Inspect the damage and glue the plastic part if necessary/possible.

I would not dab glue underneath the cap just like that; you may end up gluing the encoder itself, which would move you from a minor/cosmetic issue to a serious problem.

Thanks very much. It turns out that Sekonic has a U.S. service department that's nearby. I've asked via e-mail for its advice and whether it's prepared to fix this. I'll add its reply here.

I'd appreciate any additional thoughts that people have on this problem.

This morning, I received an email from the MAC Group Service Department in White Plains, NY saying that it's prepared to repair my light meter. My understanding is that the L-758DR was discontinued in late 2016/early 2017, so this is good news. If I send the meter to them, they'll give me an estimate. They're only 40km/25mi from me.

I've decided to do that rather than try to diagnose and repair this myself. Apart from the problem with the jog wheel, I believe that the meter is in excellent condition, and I'll ask MAC Group to have a look at it generally. The successor, the L-858D, is US$630, and many people appear to prefer the older L-758DR.

If I remember to do it, I'll update this thread when I get the estimate.

Thanks to koraks for his advice.

Cool, that's a lot more convenient and reliable than DIY-ing something. Hope it works out, at reasonable cost, if possible! It sure is a nice piece of equipment.
