Last night I mixed a liter of DS10 and accidentally doubled the Salicylic acid. Can anyone tell me what effect this might have?

Hello,
what's about doubling the other ingredients too and fill up to 2 liters?

DS-10:
water.................................700ml
sodium sulfite, anh.................75g
triethanolamine,99%...............10ml
ascorbic acid..........................8g
Dimezone S..........................0.15g
salicylic acid...........................1.0g
boric acid...............................4.0g
water to make..........................1.0 liter
target pH.................................8.00 +or- 0.05

I believe the purpose of the salicylic acid is to complex any heavy metal ions which might catalyse the decomposition of ascorbate in presence of oxygen from the air.
With all the sulfite, TEA and boric acid the solution is probably so well buffered that a little extra salicylic acid will make no appreciable difference to its pH and developing properties.

The additional salicylic acid will lower the pH of the developer a bit makiing it somewhat slower acting.

Thanks Alan and Gerald. I'll test the activity of the developer and see what time adjustments I need to make. I really like this developer with HP5+. Fine grain and full box speed and great tonality.
