中国电影市场上出售的个人玩家自制药剂非常多。其中一款特别特别,它的名字叫EVO Pro,玩家对开发进行了一些调整,以获得更好的色彩。所以我想和各位大师讨论一下如何调整ECN2公式。

There are many self-made potions sold by individual players in the Chinese film market. One of them is particularly special, its name is EVO Pro, and players have made some adjustments to the development to get better colors. So I want to discuss with you masters how to adjust the ECN2 formula.

Nice examples; they look awesome!

The most important factor in digitized images is really color correction post processing. It's far more effective to spend time on mastering that part than to try and adjust the chemistry to produce a certain effect.
Having said that, I always overdevelop my ECN2 film so that it prints better onto RA4 paper under the enlarger. Around 4m00s instead of 3m00s at 41C in standard ECN2 developer does it for me.

I don't adjust the developer chemistry in any way. It's possible to do this, though. You could change the pH, for instance, which will not only make the developer more (higher pH) or less (lower pH) active, but it will also shift the color balance significantly. And of course, other measures can be taken, such as increasing or decreasing the amount of CD3, and I suspect that changing the amount of sulfite will do a lot, too, but it's easy to overshoot that. Excess sulfite will hinder dye formation and then you end up with very thin negatives.

You can read <Processing KODAK Motion Picture Films, Module 8> "Effects of Mechanical & Chemical Variations in Process ECN-2" to understand the impact of different variables on the color.
Also, I once learned about a photochemical called "EVO". Out of curiosity, I tested it using KODAK VISION3 Color Negative Control Strips and graphed the 17 density blocks. Compare it to the Control Strips reference strip (darker line)
It is important to note that I generally do not recommend changing potions or processes to achieve a certain purpose.
I believe Kodak's engineers must know film and photochemicals better than we do, and following a standardized process can take us further. Even if the color is made better by changing the formula or process, it is not necessarily universally applicable to all film, and maybe disadvantages on the other problem.

Kodak engineers have created the best, but their goal was different from what we expect. For this reason, experiments to increase the contrast while preserving the color balance are welcome. Obviously, changing the pH or temperature of the developer does not produce good results. Changing the amount of CD-3 and/or development times may give us better results.
I have had a bad experience with adding Sodium Sulfite - I didn't achieve anything in this direction. Increasing the amount of CD-3 to 4.75 g and increasing the time to 4:00 min give very good results. If there is no process modification with the chemistry in question, they probably just slightly increased the amount of CD-3.
