So, ic-racer has graciously offered to run my test rolls through his densitometer (thanks Dale!). We will be testing for density on Zone 1 in order to determine the proper film speed.

What I need are starting times for developing in Pyrocat HD in glycol. I have never used this developer before. My plan is to run a roll or two of regularly shot test rolls just to make sure I have a good process, and then run the real test rolls to determine film speed. Then, after we find a good speed I will need to test again for personal development time.

So, I need beginning times for the following films:

Fuji Acros 100
FP4+
HP5+

Not really sure if I can use times in the massive dev chart, since they are for different speeds, dilutions and temps!

I just need some starter times until I nail my film speed, then I can revisit testing for my personal development time.

My times for 1:1:100 at 75F in a Jobo are:

10 mins for FP4+, exposed at ASA 64 (I'm souping for Pt/Pd printing, not silver, so I want the extra contrast).

I'm running at 75f instead of 68 (20C) because that's the coldest I can get the Jobo to run (it's an older, second-hand CPA, and the thermostat is wonky). I have the Jobo running at the slowest possible rotation.

Fuji across. I rate it EI as 50.
Develop: 20 degrees celcius, 13 minutes pyrocat HD 1:1:100. first minute agitation, after that 1 inversion each 30 seconds. hand tank

FP4+ I rate it EI as 64.
Develop: 20 degrees celcius, 14 minutes pyrocat HD 1:1:100. first minute agitation, after that 1 inversion each 30 seconds. hand tank

That is very close to my procedure. I rate Across at ASA 50 and develop for 14 minutes at 72F with Pyrocat 1:1:100, with agitation for the first thirty seconds, then for ten seconds every two or three minutes thereafter.

I have also made some great negatives with Across developing in divided Pyrocat. For this, you make separate working solution of 1:10 from stock dilutions A and B. Develop in Working A for 5 minutes at 72F, discard, then developing in Working B for 5 minutes at 72F, discard. Stop bath for 10 seconds, fix for 5 minutes in Rapid Fix. Very beautiful negatives just a tad on the low contrast side but print well and scan well.

*Do not wash the film between Working A and Working B. The film absorbs the reducer in Working A, and then development takes place when the accelerator is added with Working B. If you wash the film between baths there will be very little or no devellopment.
