Hello there,

As a newcomer to the Forum, I thought I would say "hello" here. So, "hello".

I've been using film now for just about 18 months following a brief foray into the digital camp; comparisons between my digital photos and the quality of prints from an enlarger suggest that I made the right decision.

I was lucky enough to be given a pair of Contax SLRs recently by a relative who converted to d*gital cameras and have added to them with a couple of Carl Zeiss lenses (28mm and 50mm) which are far superior to the canon kit lenses I'd used up until then.

In addition, I use one of the original Yashicamats (circa 1959 without a light meter) which produces absolutely fantastic prints. In fact, it's the quality of the negatives which come from this camera which is currently tempting me to trade my current enlarger in for a Durst colour one.

I intend to have a good search through this website for any advice about buying colour enlargers but if in the meantime anyone has any info they're willing to share on what to look out for (or what not to buy) then I'd really appreciate it.

I've currently got a Durst M605 for B&W which is fantastic, even if the inevitable specks of dust regularly threaten my sanity. Why is it that if there's only one speck which gets onto the final print, it ends up in the eye of whoever it is you've taken a picture of?

Anyhow, a local camera shop with a 2nd hand darkroom section has offered to trade it in for a colour equivalent plus developing tank, so any advice on what to go for in terms of a trade in would be much appreciated.

As a chap who likes to use Kodak film, I was rather hoping to use Kodak's Supra Endura paper but I've heard worrying things about its possible discontinuation. Again, I'll search through the website for further info, but if anyone can provide confirmation or not of that then it would be much appreciated.

Best wishes,

Rog

Welcome to APUG. I've heard there are colour photographs, but I don't know anything about them. Ha.
When searching, remember there are a number of us here who follow Noah Webster and spell it "color."

Roger, while I'm so new that I've little to say with much value, I'll say hello. I'm awaiting the arrival of my first SLR.
Continued luck to you

Welcome. As for the color enlarger, I remain convinced that color photography is just a temporary fad. Black and white forever!

Hello hello hello Roger .... welcome aboard and hello from London... I am sure others can chime in and advise about your trade option. I suppose that what make your enlarger is mostly your enlarging lense. Also, I use www.secondhanddarkroom.co.uk as a reference for prices.
