Hi folks, another Brit pleased to to find a forum to spend time on with other film users. I have made the modern progression in reverse, bought a digital after stopping taking pics many years ago as it was the way things seemed to be going. I saw a local gallery of a photographer who shoots 5x4, saw some of David Ward prints at an exhibition and then got a bargain on ebay(not that I knew what the hell I was buying!!). That first chrome on the lightbox....that was me with a bad film habit.

Hello Gari - funny as I have done pretty much the same thing! After many years of not taking a picture, I got a digital camera, which then died after a year. The next camera was a Rolleicord! I've now got a 4x5 Speed Graphic and am looking forward to doing more with it.

Welcome, anyway!

Hi Gari,

Welcome from Hawaii. I'm glad you found us, and glad you joined us. Yes, David Ward's work is quite stunning - he is one of my favorites. What part of the UK do you come from? There are a lot of Brits here.

I am on the west coast of Scotland, off actually, Isle of Mull.

Welcome, and enjoy.

Like you, I came back to film after using a low-res digital for a while. It was fast, but unfulfilling, and when I found that some scanners could scan negatives, I quit playing with digital and returned to film.

I'm not a pro, more like a skilled hobbyist. For me, I enjoy the process of using film, knowing the variables, understanding more of the magic of the process, and having a plastic film negative that with proper storage will last the rest of my life, and probably a good portion of my kid's life too.

Greetings from New Mexico, Gari, and welcome to APUG.

As to that whatchamacallit that led you to 4x5, don't feel too badly. There are others among us who have, shall we say, shameful dark spots in our pasts.

Hello.

Welcome from the Isle of Wight.

I think a lot of people here have a similar history to you i.e. A digital experience re-kindling a love of film photography. That's certainly true of me.

Steve.
