AFAIK they made a change to their production and that's it. Whether your paper is affected depends on when it was produced.

I have read this thread when it was current. I have new paper and see no difference in curling. The original thread made it sound as if the FB would be akin to RC for flatness..Just curious to have Simon's update.

I have noticed that the new paper I have curls much less than the old. Looking at the two contacts that I made on Gallerie last night there is hardly any curl after drying face down on screens. They do require a little flattening. But compared to the past, they are flat already.

Don't you think when this new paper hits the market there will be no need to speculate? I'm pretty sure there will be clarity in the form of a marketing push.

I should have just p.m.ed him, I mistakenly thought somebody else would be interested. If the new paper is imminent, I might not want to put any of the old stuff in the freezer..EC

To me it appears as if it already happened. But then again, I never really had any problems with Ilford curling before the change either. I bought a couple of boxes from the local camera store, and there were two different packages. One that just looked older (different label) and one that looked brand spankin' new. Guess which I picked. In 8x10 it appears as if the print dries flatter (emulsion side down on screens).

I would be surprised as one responder has said if Ilford has changed FB to the new flat version and said nothing about it.

As a RC user, I have tried to keep tabs on this thread and cannot recall seeing anything about a launch.

So, if I am right the good news is that if some of us have seen no change, it's because there has been no change and NOT that the new labels is the new stuff that has failed. The bad news is that we don't have a timescale for the change.

It may be still "work in progress" and if Ilford have said nothing, it's because there is nothing new to report.

Dear All,

Sorry for the delay in replying, day job got in the way !!!

The new stay flat technology has not been applied to any production batches as yet, technically we have some issues to address, as well as
ensuring the new coatings have exactly the same properties and longevity.
I can assure you it is coming and I will most certainly let you know when
we intend to launch, we will obviously have a 'marketing' announcement as well.

Regards

Thank You Simon, That is the answer I am after. I am going to fill the freezer with paper when the new stuff is launched and do a fifo system, freeze a new box. I'm paranoid about the supply...Evan Clarke

I just noticed some prints that I did on the Fotokemika FB that dried flatter than anything I've done in the past. 8x10's only, but I have some 11x14 to test. Both the papers seemed to dry rather flat. I'm not trying to take away from Ilford's great paper but just thought everyone should know.

Simon. That's great. Oh and as a little addition can you ensure that it can be archivally washed in about 1-2 mins max. Shouldn't be that difficult surely?

Only kidding! Just a little levity to counterbalance some of the earnestness I've seen.

I like it! Reminds me of the last Ilford tour. For this year's lot there's probably more of that on the forthcoming tour - no charge either. Laughter is light safe and permitted in any part of the complex.
