Hey Everyone,

I haven't been a member of a forum in years and I really miss the discussions and exchange of knowledge and ideas.

I'm a journalist who specializes in documentary and video news but I've always loved photography. I've dabbled in digital photography and I use those cameras to shoot video for work, but film has always been more interesting to me.

I've mostly been shooting medium format over the last decade, but a crazy work load in the last 5 years meant that I rarely took any photos. That has really changed this year and I've caught the bug again, including shooting 35mm as well.

My usual set-up is a Mamiya 7ii for medium format and an old Minolta SRT101 that I got at an estate sale in Santa Fe for 35mm. I've *just* invested in a Nikon F3 (hasn't arrived yet) as I acquired some great manual Zeiss F-mount lenses and can't wait to give that a try. I also managed to snag a Minolta Hi-Matic AF2 and a Nikon L35 AF at auction for pretty cheap - something else to have a bit of fun with.

Looking forward to talking about film and getting to know you all.

Cheers,
Tarek

Welcome Tarek, from the south west corner of Canada. Hope you enjoy it here.

Welcome to APUG Photrio!!

Welcome! Good to see more folks from the DMV here.

Hello from another District dweller! I'm a medium format shooter as well. Not sure there's much of a local group here on Photrio but perhaps we should start one now that there's 4 of us.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone!

I love that idea, is that relatively easy to set-up?

Welcome from a neighbor! I shoot just about every format out there, from 120 to 14x17 ( I still have a couple of 35mm cameras but they don't get much use ). I also teach antique and historic processes (among other things) at Glen Echo Photoworks.

Very cool, I've looked at the classes at Glen Echo Photoworks in the past. I wish I had taken some pre-COVID.

We're still offering classes (in-person on a very limited basis, but also over Zoom).

If you want to have a meet-up, I have a Zoom license so I could host a virtual meeting.

I'd be in, for sure! I almost signed up for your Vision/Method class this fall, but unfortunately still unable to do anything in-person as my partner is high risk. Will definitely check out some of the virtual offerings.

The vision/method class is 100% online. We meet over Zoom. If you want to sign up, just email the registrar and tell them I said it was ok- I can email you the materials from the first class.

Welcome, trick, from here in Fairfax. I shoot half-frame through 6X9, all film. I’m glad you’re finding this website useful. If a DMV group develops, I’d be interested.

OK folks- if anyone wants to have a virtual DC meet up, I'll be happy to host one on my Zoom account. What times/days are good for everyone? Probably best for me would be a weekend evening. The only weeknight I have that's an absolute no-go is Thursday evenings. Post here your preferred schedules and once we have a time pinned down, I'll PM everyone with the Zoom schedule.

These days most of my evenings are free so I'm happy to join at whatever time is best for the group. Looking forward to it!

FYI when I was working in the NO-GO area aka NoVa area I had a problem with a beautiful but unstable Graflex and TheFlyingCamera drove over from DC to meet me in a Penn Camera Store in Virginia to help me. Scott is a great person to work with.

Welcome. I'm up the river a bit. I spent some photographing the Potomac this weekend with my Crown Graphic. Great fall lighting we're getting now. I like to get a little west in MoCo and look around for something to capture. There's some nice rural landscapes in this area.

I have a couple of the Hi-Matic 7s's. Great little rangefinder. I'm mostly shooting Pentax 6x7 and Spotmatics.

Oh yes, and I'd be very interested in a virtual meetup as well. Thanks!

Great Falls on the Virginia side, the C&O canal, Harper's Ferry, and Antietam are good places to use the Crown Graphics.

My life is not my own, but I will try to make this!
