After lurking for a while I thought I would sign up and introduce myself. First, 'Thank You,' to all the folks who share their knowledge on this site. I am stunned at the cornucopia of information here.

I am getting back into photography after giving it up when everything went digital. I used to do a lot of B/W work starting in junior high - in the dark ages. Back then I did some freelance photojournalism and just basically made up reasons to shoot, develop, and print. Recently my daughter expressed interest in photography, but there was no way we could get her into digital, and frankly I just don't like it and neither does she. I had sold my gear years ago, so I found her a Nikon FG and a couple of lenses. In the bargain the seller threw in a ragged out looking F3HP body and lens for free so that I could join in the fun. It looks like it has been through a war, but it works flawlessly. Holding that brought back a flood of memories. It could have been mine.

So, now we are shooting. She wants to learn to develop film, and someday we will need to rig up a bathroom/darkroom. Fun stuff.

My knowledge is old. So, I may ask some questions that are anachronistic!

Well howdy-doo. At least you're passing it along to the next generation. That's awesome. Welcome to APUG.

Welcome to APUG, Lawrence. I'm glad that your daughter is carrying on the tradition.

Hello and welcome to APUG. Your knowledge might be old but it is still great!

Hello and welcome to APUG from western Massachusetts.

Welcome to APUG, where are you located you can put that in your bio. I am located just outside of Memphis and if you are close enough I have a DR that when finished will be open to others.

You just described my situation. My daughter wanted to get into photography so I bought several cameras and lenses for $50 from a buddy who owns a pawn shop so that I could teach her. Now all she wants to do is digi.

You might consider becoming a subscriber so that you can post your daughters and your work in the gallery.

Welcome to APUG and all the very best to you both!

Welcome to APUG!

How Deep South? Tierra del Fuego? Antarctica?

I'm wondering, too, where you are from. I'm in NC. Welcome!

Please post your location.

If you go too far south in the Deep South you wind up being north. In Florida anything too far south of Orlando walks, talks and votes like the north.

Not that far! I live in Mobile, Alabama. It is about as far south as one can get without getting wet.

Thanks for all the welcomes.

Welcome, from the land of the endless mountains of north central Pa.

My youngest daughter, now 13, is a "filmographer" (her terminology), shoots multiple formats from 35mm through 4x5. She is quite at home in the dark room as well. My 18 year old loves to shoot film, hates processing, so little sis soups her film for her. My eldest daughter is smitten with the evil dig****, but we dont hold that against her. All of my other kids are into film and video, and music.

 I often tell people I am from L.A. They look at me rather oddly considering the drawl I have. Then I tell them that L.A. is Lower Alabama.

Great someone with a sense of humor like mine. We will get along well.

It's not that I can't stand the heat, my wife wont let me in. She says I make a mess.
