Hi everyone, I'm a student at Penn State and I figured I'd try to see if I can get active in the APUG community. I've heard the name more and more these days. Hopefully I can get a lot out of it!

I'm fairly new to film photography and I'm getting to be a huge fan of black and white film. (I've only tried a handful of films: Ilford HP5+, Agfa APX 400, Tri-X. I'm also still on my first batch of HC-110. I may try Rodinal soon.) When I'm not shooting mono, I'm usually shooting Kodachrome or trying out E-6 film.

I've got a handful of cameras but I usually stick to a Canon A2 since my DSLR's EF lenses fit it. I may try for a more manual camera soon, such as a Canon AE-1 or a Nikon F-something. Any recommendations?

Also, I'm trying to learn more about famous photographers. Garry Winogrand is probably my favorite right now.

Welcome to APUG, Dan. And good luck against Ohio State next year. (Hee Hee Hee) ;p And I would have to suggest a Minolta sr-T101 and some MD mount lenses.

Dan - hello and welcome to APUG from western Massachusetts.

Hello Dan and welcome to APUG. You can try some Canon FD stuff like maybe the F-1.

Chris: Thanks, but I should note that my football team of choice will always be Virginia Tech (my undergrad school).

All: Thanks for the camera recommendations! I'll look into them!

Hi-diddly-ho good neighbor! I hope you are enjoying life at Happy Valley. I'm just over the mountain in Cameron County, my wife's a PSU DuBois alum. Stick to what you have (Canon) and enjoy shooting. If you have any questions, you are at the right place for an answer(many).

Welcome from near Washington, DC. Go Phillies!

Welcome from SW PA. You probably already know what a great resource APUG is. If you can make it to the gatherings in Ohio, consider it. Check the regional tab for the group with MI and OH - it's a great group of people. I've learned a lot from them.

I had no idea that there were real, live group meetings. What sort of things do they do and how often are they held?

Welcome from right south of Philly. Good to hear younger people shooting film.

Welcome to APUGland!:D

They happen on an irregular schedule. What we do sometimes depends on the weather, but we look at prints, talk about projects, and go shoot. Cuyahoga National Park is right there with lots of great areas to shoot (including a couple of waterfalls and lots of big rocks).

Here's the next gathering post in Ohio:
(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

There are other groups that gather in their regions as well.
