Just thought I'd say Hi!

I just stumbled across this forum, and it looks to be full of info for the film fan!
I'm Kevin, come from the south coast of England, have been taking pictures since I was a young boy (I'm now 48  ), and still love to use my old film cameras. I do have a Canon 20D digital body, but still like the 'feel' of using film.

For info Dead Link Removed is a list of my current cameras etc. (including the... er, digital stuff... )

I love using Ilford B&W films, mainly FP4 & HP5, and also run the odd roll of Fuji colour neg through - currently using the new(ish) 'Pro 400H' and getting good results.

Ah well I'll shut up now and have a browse around...

Hi Kevin,

And welcome from not quite so far.. Ireland :D

Hello from slightly more south.

Steve.

Welcome to APUG Kevin, from Sunny Sarfend.

Thanks for all the welcomes! - Can I ask what is probably a stupid question, but try as hard as I can I can't find that answer...

What is the ruling on posting images around here, I have my own web server and use a domain on this to host various forum images. Therefore I will not require using the APUG server for this.

Most forums have limits on number of images, pixel sizes and/or file sizes and i don't want to break any rules if I can help it (I have already converted one image to a link just in case)

I've seen a lot of thumbnailed images linking to a larger picture, is this the normal thing to do?

I've spent the best part of half an hour looking for this info but to no avail...

And along and up a bit from sunny Dorset...

Nice weather we are having at last...

Have fun! Bob.

It was nice, until this afternoon when it started raining! The temperature has also dropped by a few degrees, so looks like autumns on the way  Ah well think of the photo opportunities with all those lovely autumnal colours.

Welcome from Middle England Kevin.
I think that you have to subscribe before you can post images, or indeed peruse the extensive galleries, and portfolios.

Colours..?

Regarding your photos, you could put a link to an offsite gallery in your signature. Or once you have been here for a while and if you think its worth £12.50 a year, you could subscribe and upload to your APUG gallery.

So I can't just insert an image hosted on my own server?? - I have actually done this successfully already, but as i say, because I saw no other images inserted like this I changed to a link.

I realise this is not so much of a photo sharing forum, but sometimes it's handy to show one or two. Ah well...

Only from within a thread itself. However, most images are posted in the gallery, which requires you to be a subscriber. However, you could always start a thread asking people to post images in it.

So inserting this image is OK then

Dead Link Removed

Taken on my F100 and 28-105 AFD on a roll of Ilford FP4 last winter.

Hi Kevin.

Welcome. This is a wonderful forum, as you will soon discover, but you are mistaken that this is not a photo-sharing site as well... As soon as you become a paid subscriber, you will have access to the photo galleries as well (see the gallery / portofolios link at the top?). There are tons of beautiful images there... a real inspiration...

Unfortunately, that part of the page is only for paid subscribers, but on the positive site, if you DO become a subscriber, you'll help Sean, the site's administrator, to keep this site alive. See his introduction and you'll understand some more about the difficulties to keep such a site alive:

(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

Again welcome and great image by the way!!

It is, but we usually only post images this way that are pertinent to the thread; primarily because they disappear too quickly.

That's what I will probably do, the image above was really just to 'test the water'

It works, and there has been a thread or two where images are posted as you did. I don't know of any particular rule for or against posting such images, but as Dave points out, the general consensus is to post them in threads where it makes sense. That is why I suggested starting a new thread if you want to post such images. However, normally, images are shared in the gallery.

Dear Kevin,

Welcome to the global village of Apug. Where I come from, Dorset is nearly as foreign as 'up Lunnon', of which Exeter is well known to be an outying suburb; but Hawaii is only next door...

Cheers,

Roger from Cornwall, now in France.

Kevin - welcome from western New England.

Thanks for the welcome messages, I've bitten the bullet and decided to subscribe
It's great to find so much information and enthusiasm about 'real' photography here.

I've just ordered some more HP5 and hope to contribute around here - Now where are those galleries.....
