Actually I hate this kind of posts, but that you'll not think that I'm a shy guy, I'll write it down anyway.
My name Is Marko Trebušak. I'm from Slovenia, a small country between Alps and Adriatic sea. I first started photographing in secondary school, after I bought nice Russian Zenit 12XP for my first earned money. Then it was something like five or six years of "snapping" before I find my interest in birds (actually I develop a few rolls of ORWO B&W film in the process). Then I went to "latest bells and whistles" kind of equipment (read Canon) with 500 mm lens. Then after our first son was born, the time available for photography shrink enormously. And after that I went to landscape photography that can be done in the morning when kids were still asleep. Well, you know what will happen next: I bought Arca Swiss 5x4 camera with 300 mm and hopefully 135 in the near future. I switched to B&W, and now I'm working on Ziatype process.
I'm quite glad that I find this twist minded mob of analog photographers and will suck up as much knowledge as possible, so be warned !

Marko

Welcome, Marko.

Are you still shooting birds? Have you tried doing wildlife photography with your 5x4 camera?

Actually, I never shot a single bird, I try to just photograph them . Yes, I'm still photographing birds, if time permits. And yes, I have a plan for making 5x4 photos of birds on the feeder somewhere in the future. IR beam traps are one of the variables in this equation that I didn't solve yet.

Marko

IR trap beam sounds interesting. I've never tried anything like this, but one thing I would watch out for is light leaks around the camera back and holder. I've had problems in the past when I've been waiting with the dark slide pulled, sometimes for 1/2 an hour. I've found fogging on the subsequent film. I believe that the black felt light trap used in 5x4 DDS is OK for a typical exposure, but if the slide is left out for a longer time you can get some light in on the film. I now try and keep my camera back covered with the dark cloth to minimise these problems. I suggest you try out some holders (use sheets of paper cut to size) before setting up to make sure you have no problems with leaks.

Welcome, Marko, from a fellow bird/LF photographer. I've got it down now, so I can carry my ultralight Gowland 4x5" camera in the side pocket of my ScopePak with the 600/4.5 and Canon F-1N.

Welcome, neighbor

Funny how it seems that all of the "traditional" photographers i "meet" online on other forums, seem to end up on Apug, sooner or later. And then they all get drawn into that bottomless pit called LF

Just to let you know that since I joined Apug, I managed to get started in LF via a very nice Speed Graphic 4x5, and I'm in the process of getting a 5x7 camera (hopefully from another Apug member...). So, beware

Regards,

Denis

Marko, Denis is wrong: LF is not a "bottomless pit". It's more of a "pitiless bottom".

Welcome to APUG.

Denis, I made it other way around: I first enter the bottomless pit, and then discovered APUG. But I feel very comfortable in this pit, and I don't care for bottomless part .

Thank you all for a warm welcome
Marko

Hi Marko

A good friend of mine comes from Croatia (but now has British citizenship). He is buying a house in Slovenia and says it's a beautiful country so I am hoping to see it for myself next year.

Best wishes.
