hello world
long time lurker here on Photrio, an invaluable resource to photographers everywhere <3 I've decided to engage with Photrio's robust and enthusiastic community because everyday i have questions and insights about photography.
my name is Dev, I studied fine arts at the Cooper Union. some major takeaways about me: my eBay watchlist is always at capacity (because I rarely buy anything), I love darkroom printing but don't get to practice as much as I'd like, and I love photography and art. I was raised back and forth between Queens and parts of Brooklyn, where I live now.
When I've managed to save money for a nice dinner or night out, I'll trek into Manhattan, meet some friends at the downtown cluster of delicious restaurants, stare longingly at the menu, down a glass of tap water (sparkling, if I'm lucky), leave before ordering anything, and opt instead to hit one of the trusty film labs of this great city to pour (shamefully) whatever I'd saved into the ever-extended, grease laden palm of the Kodakian hand that feeds....*sniffles* *empties pockets* *loads camera*
I don't have a specialty because I love working with lots of techniques, but mostly I use medium format. My Mamiya 7 is my bestie.
some of my favorite artists working with (or having worked with, RIP) photography:
Walid Raad, Daido Moriyama, LaToya Ruby Frazier, Thomas Demand, Heji Shin, Dawoud Bey, Rineke Dijkstra, Leslie Hewitt, An-My Lê, Nancy Floyd, Elsa Dorfman, Wolfgang Tillmans,
Looking forward to this new (but familiar) territory!
