New to this forum as well as to photography.. Currently looking to buy my first SLR 35mm camera.
Can anyone tell me how do I change my name to a nickname?
Went through all system preferences and no success.

Best,
Maggie

Welcome to the forum Maggie.
Your screen name can only be changed by Sean, the owner of the site. If you wish his assistance, the easiest way to make the request is to click on the "Report this post" link at the bottom left of your post and then put your request into the screen that opens up.
The "Report" goes to all moderators, so you should be sure to request that it be drawn to Sean's attention. One good thing - he is in New Zealand, so there should be no time zone issues!

There is a small one. Kiwis are 2 hours ahead of Australian (Melbourne) time. It may seem small, and flying over and coming back puts you in a kind of time warp - - very much so during the recently-finished Daylight Savings!!

Hi Maggie,

Welcome from down on the Mornington Peninsula. There are quite a few Melburnians on the forum, although we've all been rather quiet of late for some reason. There are also a great many other very knowledgeable Australians in other states who participate here. All have been extremely kind and helpful since I joined a decade ago. (Poorly worded; I'm sure they were kind and helpful before my arrival, too!)
Also, as Matt and Gary noted, Sean, the site's owner, is a New Zealander so it's easy to see where the generous attitude springs from ☺
Don't hesitate to ask questions, but also be aware that there's seventeen years of accumulated wisdom archived here so a quick search will probably yield up every thing you ever wanted to know! ☺

Enjoy!
Kindly,
Molli

Welcome to Photrio Maggie! This is a great place to find all the information you are looking for. But be careful - before you know it, you'll be going from 35mm to medium format, to LF and alternative processes, and... (you get the picture). ;-)

Welcome from Adelaide!
mooseontheloose has hit it on the head - it's a bit like eating Maltesers: you can't stop at just one!! Jump right in and join the fun, there's an amazing amount of information and knowledgeable members who will pipe up to help you out at the drop of a hat.

I've been shooting film since forever, and I still learn something every time I have a browse - it's amazing what this community provides in the way of advice, opinion and of course, imagery.:D

Nothing at all wrong with your handle. Always refreshing to see YL's on the radio. Photography too. Don't change a thing.

Welcome from Woodend, (a little north of Melbourne) this forum is great, so much knowledge and experience.
If you are looking for a first 35mm SLR, IMHO, you can't go past a Pentax K1000, maybe a KX or MX as long as it's in good condition. Nikon, Canon, Olympus also made wonderful manual SLR's. I'd recommend a manual SLR because it will force you to learn photography much faster than a camera with any sort of automation. And as you go further down the photo road you'll want to go Medium format and then large format and those cameras have less and less automation.
Hope we can have a Melbourne get together once we are no longer under house arrest.

Hello and welcome to the forum! I'd recommend a Pentax MX as well-that was my first camera (simply hold a Pentax).
