Hello everyone, I'm Mark. I live near Des Moines, Iowa, in the US. I am a freelance photographer, shooting corporate assignments, weddings, portraits, other assorted jobs. My original goal when I started my business was to have enough income to support my personal work, black and white art photography. I was looking to devote at least a couple days each month to exploring the fine world we live in, shooting a variety of subjects, much of which lately has been "old stuff."
I found this site by reading an article in B&W magazine, a fine publication I enjoy very much. I was wondering why there wasn't a site devoted to the silver side of life. Shooting film, working in the darkroom is my therapy. My creative release. While my source of income is also photography, it doesn't fill my need to express myself.
My first darkroom experiences were in the late '70s, in classes, and newspaper and yearbook work at Iowa State University. Since then, I've always had access to, or owned darkroom equipment. It's a large part of who I am. I no longer use my darkroom for commercial work (I'm mostly digital for that now), just my personal stuff.
I shoot with 35mm, 67, and 4X5 as well as digital, (but that doesn't count here.) As a side note, I do need to sell my current 4X5 system, to invest in some other equipment needs, so be looking for that soon. I have a guy working on my website as we speak. So, I'll post that info when it's ready.
I am looking forward to joinig the fracus here, I have lots of experiences and ideas to share!
Thanks,
Mark Bassett
