Hey Yall,

My name is Justin E. I'm a long time lurker here since I got back into photography in 2015! I figured Id finally join the fun and make an account. I started shooting film in high school and wanted to make it my major in college. I ended up dropping out but made it back to shooting video in 2012. I eventually got back into shooting photography in 2016. Then I went fully shooting black and white film in 2018 until 2023. I built a darkroom and started printing at this time. I made it full circle and I'm now shooting fully on digital on a nikon z6. I still work in the darkroom but using digital negatives for contact printing. I still very much enjoy the process. I have some darkroom equipment I wanted to list and was looking for a couple items to purchase! Socials down below.

Welcome aboard! Thanks for showing your work and interesting to hear about your work with digital negatives. It looks like you're printing on regular silver gelatin paper, right? Most people who print with digital negatives use some kind of 'alt process' printing technique(s), so it's refreshing to see a different take on this. Btw, you're in good company; @Carnie Bob also uses digital negatives for silver gelatin.

Lurk no more. Welcome to Photrio!

Welcome and hello from northern Indiana

Welcome to Photrio! For my personal work, I occasionally use digital negs, but only for Alt. processes. I teach my senior photo students how to make digital negs from their 35mm negs, and print onto silver.

Thank you Andrew! I was watching your video on carbon transfer. Thats peak printing right there! I honestly prefer digital negs because I actually love to work a image on the computer. I know thats taboo when printing in a darkroom but I get exactly what I envision and I dont waste a ton of material getting there!

Well, I work in a darkroom, and it's not taboo as far as I'm concerned! It's another tool in the toolbox.
