Hi Everyone!
I've been wanting to get into film photography for ages, hankering after an old school film SLR.
The better half finally decided to indulge me, and bought me a Canon A1 with a 50mm F1.8 lens for christmas (from a list of models i wrote down and casually left lying around)
A quick fix for the shutter squeak and straitening out a bent ASA dial and she works a treat.
Since when did film and developing become so damn expensive!?
Admittedly i haven't handled a film camera since i was in my early teens before digital tool over, but i remember being about to buy really cheap film and prints! Things have changed over the last 15-20 years, now it almost makes the hobby unaffordable!
Looks like i'll have to learn to develop it myself, should be interesting! haha

Define expensive Jonathan ... Welcome to APUG!
Hello all the way from Dorset
In many ways film isn't that expensive compared to the 80s and 90s. If you ignore the horrible processing and 'free' films you used to get from trueprint et al, decent film was always expensive. But the days of cheap and nasty mass produced processing and printing are long gone.
As for 'cheap' B&W film, you can pick up Kentmere for about £3.50 per roll. For a little bit more you can get ilford HP5+ for under £4 a roll (24 exposures). Silverprint in Poole are worth a visit and stock a decent range of film.
I have quite a few rolls of Poundland colour film but much prefer black and white, which for me is worth the price of admission. Being able to get creative in the darkroom is a huge bonus There's nothing like a well printed black and white print.
It's an addiction ,not a hobby, which explains the costYes it has become an expensive hobby that's for sure! Welcome to Apug!
