I have just discovered this site.
My name is Serge and i am a long time 35 film photographer ; Mainly slide film for my color work and negative film for black and white work. I also shoot on 4x5 inch format with a linhof camera that i bought a decade ago.

I tried digital photography but i came back to film photography faster than you can say Cat in the Hat.

I was deeply disappointed when Kodak discontinued Kodachrome film and i am dreading the day when they will stop manufacturing film.

Is it me or is film photography is more popular in the US than in Europe ?

Hopefully Digital photography will not be the death of Film photography. "Sad day, very sad day, when there is no more film."

Digital is incredibly popular here in the US, yes.
Unfortunately it is conditioning more then a few consumers to accept subpar work.

I do a lot of event work here in the Nations Capitol and pricing has gotten rough.

Welcome to APUG! I think the numbers of people who do film photography is low in many countries, although I have to say I've seen more film cameras in Europe and Japan than I ever did in Canada. But even here in Japan where digital has mostly taken over you can go to any photo store and still get a (small) variety of film in black and white, slide, negative in both 35mm and 120 formats.

Welcome. While film is declining in market share and makers, hopefully the makers in Eastern Europe will continue production long after the major companies decide shareholders are more important than customers. I suspect it will not be obsolete before I go to the great photo shoot in the sky.

Welcome to APUG! We welcome your return to analog photography and back to the world of real imaging. I recently participated in a National Geographic/Lindblad expedition where much emphasis was placed on photography and the techniques to get the best result, all digital of course. Only one other person was shooting film. At week's end we had viewed all the photographs save for our two collections. I am slowly working my way through my 30-odd 35mm rolls of Portra 160S and Tri-X. In my comments to the NG I asked how the expedition could be improved for those few people interested in large format? In days past, the NG was the major consumer and processor of Kodachrome. Today, it is entirely digital and in my opinion the photo quality has been reduced accordingly.
