hello everyone, i m AJ from Dubai, UAE. graphic designer by profession, photographer by passion. film is the new found love and trying to explore analogue photography as i started with digital few years back. currently 4 digitals and 10 35mm film cams in the stable. love black n white in film, though in my region its difficult to find films and stuff. want to try developing my own films if i find some local dealer for chemicals, etc. its great to find a very active forum for analogue, good to be here.

Welcome to APUG!
If you don't get the required (premixed) film chemicals you might be able to mix some yourself see the caffenol (coffee based developer) thread , Sodium thiosulfate (fixer) should be available as Antichlor or bleach-stop (check if it's thiosulfate based).

Good luck and again welcome to APUG

You must develop it yourself. This is the only way to be happy with B&W films and with silver gelatin prints. I know in the beginning it is hard and it looks difficult - but the joy it will give you once when you learn and do it yourself - it is priceless .

First is to search this site in archive posts, for example you have:

(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

and many other nice posts that explain everything.

Second is youtube: search for film developing, darkroom, etc - great way to start learning.

Dubai have most expensive airports in the world , technology is good and it doesnt hurt your film. Try to online shopping , shipping is costly but when you order large quantaties , it pays itself. The fun about the film is the options , different lenses , viewfinders , ergonomics , films , developers , papers , enlargers , enlarger lenses , contact printing , alternative processes have huge fun. Dont miss it and dont stuck to the low quality films produced by Kodak for Middle East.
You can pm me anytime.

Thanks Mustafa. I did find some chemicals to develop B&W films. Ilford has a dealer here and chemicals and paper were easily available, also Ilford film. Still have to order some more equipment like the dark cloth thing, can, reel and tank. Most probably will have to eBay these if I cant find locally.
