Hello,

After a bit of lurking, I have started participating in APUG for the last few months. Yesterday, however, I got into an unfortunate spat with a member and somehow it made me realize that I had never properly introduced myself to the community.

I am curently based in Madison, WI where I am working on my dissertation. Apart from poring over manuscripts, photography and darkroom work take up most of my time. While my main system is built around the Nikon N90s and several manual focus lenses, I also enjoy using a variety of cameras from 35mm rangefinders to Brownies and especially pinholes - even a Yashica 124G, as my sole "serious" medium format camera. Eventually, when I can afford it, I plan to use the 35mm system only for macro and handheld lowlight photography and move to 4x5 but that will have to wait for a while.

Over the last year or so I have been honing my printing skills in a makeshift darkroom and find the process immensely rewarding and am looking forward to having a permanent setup that I wouldn't have to take apart after each use .

It's nice to be a part of this community and I hope to learn a lot more from these forums.

Hi Anupam, welcome to APUG (even if it is a little after the fact!). Good to learn a little about the person behind the posts.

Thanks, guys. I do like it when there's snow on the ground and yet it's not bitterly cold. Good for photography.

But I am also a macro addict and just love to look for dew covered bugs at dawn. And around this time of the year I get really impatient and jittery for them. Have you ever crawled on dewy grass and been surprised how it swarms with life? The dead winter just doesn't appeal to me that way. A friend who lives down south mentioned she actually saw a dragonfly! In February! That is just unfair, I say.

Andy, I love the quote in your sig. Someone ought to make a fridge with a safelight inside - I'd buy one:smile:

Ah! good to see another lurker in from the edge. Welcome from New England, where the weather has been surprisingly reasonable this winter - No dragonflies, mind you, but no ice dams on the gutters or slipping on the steps either. I'll take it.

Welcome from a fellow Wisconsin dweller. I'm in the even more frozen NW corner in Rice Lake and have many Madison connections. Great town and you'll like it even more when it melts!

The Phillips station with the A&W at the intersection of 53 & 77 in Minong is the best damned place to get beef jerky IMHO. Sweet & Hot is the best, but rarely seems to be there. Nummy.
