My name is George Georgiou. I am the staff photographer at Playboy Magazine I also teach b&w exposure, development and traditional silver printing at Columbia college for the last 10 years. My personal work is all b&w, medium and large format. I found this forum a few months ago and I enjoy it very much. I thought it was time to introduce myself and become a active participant in the forums. I look forward to communicating with all of you in the future.

lol, first thing I thought of was if any appugers will now make it into playboy! Then I thought of most of the members, and laughed. I do nominate Cheryl if you are looking for an appugger to include. (gonna hear it now) BTW welcome George from the female side of this place. No I have not opened one of your magazines. I'm sure the hubby type has.

Hello there George.
Do you happen to be greek or of greek-descent? That last name gives
it away.
I would like to see your work, since you mention BW and Playboy doesn't
really do BW (no, I don't really care for the articles ;-) ).

Good Morning,

Perhaps we need a new, separate category in the Gallery section.

Show me! Show me!

No, really welcome. I cannot tell you how pleasing it is to have a professional of your background arriving on this site committed to non-digital work. I only hope it is a trend.

About me

Hello again.
My personal work is all b&w.

I am a photographer in the straight photography tradition. I am interested in the urban landscape, architeture, storefronts, walls, windows I am currently working on a series of old theaters, the nude and some still lifes in the the studio.
I work in all formats up to 8x10. I like the big cameras.

I use mostly ilford films. fp4 and panf, but I loved the old tri-x.

At this stage of my life I am a pyro guy. Getting good results with pyrocat.

Papers are selected with subject matter in mind. My favorites are ilford, bergger and forte.

Paper developers-I like ansco 130, dektol and selectol, and a couple of warm tone developers like 261 and 262. I will soon be testing some of the liquid developers.

Playboy is my job. Work for hire. I am fortunate to make a living as a photographer. My personal work is what matters most, but I like the balance because I use a camera every day. Teaching is important but very difficult at this time, photography is in a transitional period. Todays generation for the most part is not interested in the old way.

Playboy still shoots film but not for long. Digital soon to come. Color photogs beware in a couple of years you will not have much film to choose from.

And yes I am of greek descent.

Hi!

George,

Welcome to APUG. It's a great site. Glad you're here and I hope you can join us in a photo outing. Mike Pry is trying to organize one under the Wisconsin Regional Focus Group.
