Hello everyone,
I subscribed to this great site a while ago, but I have not taken the time to introduce myself. Im now enjoying my winter break so I finally have time to write an introduction. My name is Guillermo Meraz, I live in central California and I work as a computer programmer/administrator. Im fairly new to photography. Just last year I began taking photography classes at my local community college.
Why did I do this? Well, I love to travel and I enjoy documenting my travels. Unfortunately, my pictures rarely captured what I had seen through the viewfinder (believe me this was a big frustration). So following the advice of a friend, I began to study photography. Im glad I followed his advice, my photographs are improving and as a bonus, I discovered the joy of working in the darkroom!
Im currently using a beat up Contax RTS II (The previous owner had thrown the camera to the trash!) and a Pentax 645. My favorite B&W films are PanF 50, Delta 100 and HP5+. In color, I prefer Reala, Provia 100 and Velvia 50. I cant say much about developers. Ive only used Ilfords ID-11. As for papers, Ive only used Ilfords and Fortes glossy RC papers developed in Dektol. I like them both. They have nice rich blacks. Ive also work with R4 chemistry. However, I did not enjoy printing color at all.
Anyway, I look forward to become a contributing member of this community.
