My name is Larry Carter, and I'm from Altoona, Iowa. My main photography interest's include "Railroad Photography", slash/ "Landscape" in my area, and surrounding areas within my state of Iowa. I started out with 35mm camera's, (Nikon and Pentax) back in the 80's, and moved on to include medium and large format equipment. Being told long ago by an older gentleman I couldn't shoot trains with a large format camera, I moved onto medium format in the early 90's. About four years ago I started to re-think the large format issue in 2004. I came to realize that if I had the proper equipment, it would be possible! To date I have lenses that range from 90mm - 420mm, and hoping I can get a 600mm for 8 x 10. I have L/F cameras in 4x5, 5x7, and 8x10, with an array of lenses to enjoy. Testing ongoing at present with a Bronica SQ-B and PS150mm F4 lens, about 85mm perspective. I have purchased a Bushnell "Radar Gun" to monitor train speeds coming toward the camera position, between about the mid 30 MPH to around the mid 40's MPH range, with exception to Container Trains, (stack trains) and Amtrak which are between 69 MPH to 72 MPH. Distance and focal length have to be considered carefully! Testing now with the Bronica SQ-B, the 150 mm lens and Ilford Pan F Plus 50 speed 120 b/w film. I can't wait for the weather to break so I can get get back out and finish the other half of this roll of film.
Regards...LC
