Just starting this analog thing, so I thought it would be best to start with one of the earlier methods, plus one of the benefits with collodion photography is the immediate feedback, just like polaroids and digital.

My background is with Tilt Shift lens work on a DSLR but so far this analog thing is a lot of fun.

Based in Berkeley so if there are any fellow Large Format or Tintypists I would love to meet for coffee and talk about our work.

I'm curious how you got your start in collodion -- in other words, how did you start from scratch so to speak, and learn this process?

I'd like to do this and am trying to find my way around.

I knew nothing about it either, and only took about ten Polaroid's on a 4X5 before so I took a two day workshop at RayKo in San Francisco. I was making Tintypes before lunch on the first day.

In that environment it was not hard at all. You can also rent time in studio and darkroom with access to the chemicals, that way you can concentrate on taking photos while you come up to speed on everything else, or if like me you don't have the right camera.
