Hello APUG from FILM Ferrania (PART 2)

A quick question regarding poyester film in movie cameras / projectors. Couldn't they mitigate the damage risk of jammed films by using a sacrificial key on the shaft and sprockets? Much the same as props on outboard motors. Any serious jam would shear the key. Disassemble cleanup replace key and away you go again. In more sophisticated applications I thought they would have employed clutches on the shafts which would slip or disengage at preset loads.

Just a thought or two.

Would rolling the film back onto plastic reels while still wet do it? We're getting close to the diagnosis here. Also, I wipe down the wet film with a glasses hankie soaked in flowater to get rid of the Remjet.

Flowater? Please define.

Moving film onto and off reels while wet would hurt it if the reels are auto feed, but otherwise there should be no problem. Kodak recommends rewinding wet film be done under water at the process temperature.

We used cellulose sponges soaked in the rem jet removal alkaline solution after the wash in the rem jet removal solution. This wipe with two sponges folded into a "C" shape removed the rem jet as much as could be accomplished.

I never thought of reloading under water.

I use a cloth or sponge soaked in Photo-Flo, oddly enough I fold the sponge into a 'C' shape and run it down the film by hand. I came to this on me own I did I did. I do use patterson reels so the edge tends to get stripped of emulsion. Doesn't effect the image though.

I saw the picture of the frame with the "ferrania" writing on it. Shouldn't the writing be oriented the same way as the frame? this helps when printing.

There is an update on the Ferrania website (Dead Link Removed). They do seem reversed tho...

The printing should be left-to-right readable when looking through the film with the film base facing you. If you're referring to the fact that the frame is upside-down relative to the printing, know that some cameras orient the film this way (my Yashica T5 does this).

Thats awesome that the old mask was found to expose the "Ferrania" to the sprocket edge!

One question for Dave,

Do you know if any of the other masks are available for the more classic ferrania logo similar to the image below?
Would be great to see this back on the colour films
It appears Ferrania technologies used it and messed around with it, firstly changing only the first letter "F" and the two "r"'s, and then afterwards they changed the whole word in the final production runs.
See photo below.
There are shots ive seen on google with the whole logo, but they are not common, as i think they changed it early on.

Last night I printed an old 126 colour film shot in the 60s by my father. He told me that it was a ferrania film but on the neg there's no writings, only numbers and arrows

I hate to be the guy who quotes himself but there you go, a 2 days delay has been announced. This is exactly what I'm saying about creating an hype and only producing credibility lost. Now, will they stick to the new date?

That is why I don't get why giving so specific dates with a stop watch, for god sake.
To be honest, I think they are doing a great technical job, couldn't say the same about their press release.

Oh, who cares. It's two days. They're obviously working feverishly toward a goal. I'd rather have a delay than an inferior product.

Exactly since it is only few days they should have had a writing saying the shop'll open soon. This wouldn't have caused any concern among backers or possible buyers. As for the better product, I hope that at this point the product is already packed into rolls ready to ship as soon as the shop opens, otherwise the delay will be much much more than just two days.

Sure, a day more or less doesn't matter. It's just the image you create by consistently missing deadlines. However valid each excuse is, it shows that planning is not their strong suit.

Oh come on guys what is the point of a counter if then you reset it? I'm sincerely a bit saddened by this. If the deadlines are not 100% achievable then it is better not to have deadlines, even if the delays is just two days. I can survive without having the film in my hands, but you are sending out really a bad message.
In the trade I work, canning a deadline by two days means monetary penalties, angry clients, and having justifying why one should keep his job.
