I bet that they are getting wittner-cinetec to do this in Germany. They have all the equipment to do so.
Although it appears ferrania must be finishing some of it, as it shows them running the perfs and exposing the ferrania logo on the sprocket edge.

They are running it on one of their collection of perforators, which appears to be for Movie release print film. (right perforations for standard still film - KS1870) Although they indicated the "Ferrania" reads right from the Emulsion side. The one picture of a finished roll in the can seems to be in a ferrania can, so they mist have some of those still in stock.

I thought everyone would have their P30 by now. Is this not a correct expectation?

Not for me. I am in Brazil and the postal service was on a strike last week.

Anyone in the US get their P30 yet?

perhaps the expectation but not the reality, seems that they have been triple checking and sending the italian customers orders first. North American orders are supposed to be sent form the States, presumably from David Bias's Apartment..

They are supposed to charge the credit card when shipped, and so far I have not seen a charge.

I've heard of a few US customers getting their order, but not many. It apparently is shipped from a location in Georgia.

I'm a first day order and KS supporter in the states - still patiently waiting.

If you crunched the numbers for their production capabilities and used the order numbers as a rough guide of the number of orders they had, June deliveries for most people are to be expected, and they apparently also ran into another set of problems that delayed them a bit further. My guess is that the Alpha orders will run into July for some people.

I honestly think that time is now running out for the whole project.....and I'm very sad and disappointed to think that. Three years is a long time.

Three years a long time given the scale of what they needed to do? This was far from a turnkey operation. The folks at Ferrania have basically made film from scratch using machines salvaged potential scrapping and a building that had been uninhabited for some time.

I think there is serious underestimation of what they've done, and what they still need to do.

I appreciate exactly what you say and agree entirely.....but, given what they've done and all the problems which they have suffered, and solved, to get this far, this just confirms what you say....there is so much more which they still need to do. And, don't forget, the winning post is not just the day they can produce a few free films for the backers....it is when they can produce a reliable quality film, easily available to order and then delivered promptly; this will have to appeal to paying customers, who will continue to buy regularly in quantities and at a price sufficient to support an ongoing factory and business. An enormous "ask"!

One thing to point out is that the delays on shipping the Alpha product are largely about the scale of their current production lines and the sudden influx of demand that came in when they opened orders. Normal demand for an ongoing business could likely be met by this relatively low production volume, but they had to deal with a huge swell of demand all at once. My concern is that they will continue to encounter these situations as they release further products and wear out the good will of their consumers. Maybe when they release the Alpha version of their slide film they'll have the sense to wait until they have some inventory built up to decrease the time between order and delivery for their customers. If they keep us updated on testing and production before making pre-ordering available I don't think they'll suffer from delaying the initial release. As sexy as the P30 test shots were, the color slide test shots will be even sexier, even if they have problems with balancing the color just right (look at what people are paying Lomography for their purple and turquoise films).

Absolutely "Pervert" System (not that I think that)

When you think Kodak, remember that they did not sponsor this alone. Most all major film and camera mfgrs. bought into it. The frame size was meant to match the current digital frame size and was to be automated to the max.

You just do not know the history of this!

I remember (I think correctly) that you could interchange film mid roll and switch back and forth between emulsions. I wasn't a bad idea. Maybe it's time to bring it back, same concept only 70mm film in a cassette 645 to 6x12. . No storing the film in the cassette.

With the Minolta Dynax/Maxxum/Alpha 7 you can change and resume mid roll with 135 film as well. But you have to memorise the position yourself, or seems, and give up one frame for safety margin. I will try without the extra frame to see how precise the camera is working.

Didn't get my P30α yet. I'm in Norway, which is in Europe but not the EU.

Well, if you memorize (or write) the frame number, and then readvance with one (or two) safety margin frames, you can do that with any camera. It isn't practical, though. You have to be careful not to rewind the leader into the cartridge, you have to be "consistent" in the way to load the film, you risk some more veiling of the film (you must load and unload in subdued light). APS was hassle-free.

You just need to memorise that one number. Since this camera is almost a DSLR, just with film, it should work in a very consistent manner. The variation would be the few milimeters when you pull the film out to the red mark.

It will not retract the leader in the canister. I have already tried that feature and it is very nice and consistent. Looks like the film was never used (can be a bad idea, I know...) and is less prone to screw ups than when doing it with my manual cameras. Ok, I really only did that wrong once before.

Of course I agree that APS had it thought out all the way and was probably almost never used. My first and only film camera in my consumer shooter life was an APS point and shoot back in 1999 or 2000. I only started using film again a few years after making photography a real hobby.

Which brings me back to Ferrania. Unlike others here I think E6 film could be a potential film booster. We live in a digital world and slide film is the closest to digital that film can offer. Digital is what people are used to and it takes time to adjust. C41 will look bad to most people, unless they shell out for a pro lab and pro film and pro prints/scans (and many will not want to have prints, you have to learn to appreciate them) or learn to develop and print/digitise themselves. Of course Lomo is all the rage at the moment. But in the long term you need to draw in people with something that gives the average person something that will stimulate the same nerves as digital, but in its very own way. If they bite they may explore and learn to like what other film has to offer.

Sure, there is a hype currently. People looking for something different. But I find it scary, because I'm afraid it is a fashion. Fashions go.

I hated what I got back from the drugstore when I tried film before I could afford my digital setup. Then after almost three years I started film again, developing myself. My first roll of tri-x was ok. But it was a learning experience and I was already committed. If we want normal shooter to add film to digital it will be safer to land a a direct hit first. And that would be E6. It remains to be seen if the Ferrania product will have what it takes. It's hard to imagine they can get close to Fuji.

I'd still use a grainly Ferrania with interesting colour, basically a Rollei CN200 that is not broken would be a nice character film. But to really draw in the average Joe you'd need to get out lots of Provia100F at a good price, light plates and good scan service. That could convice people to add film to the mix and explore the delicate possibilities that it offers.

Oh, and never tell them film is better or that they shouldn't get/get rid of their digital gear. Film will almost always loose that tactic.

My bank card has not yet been charged so I do not think that my P30 is on it's way yet...however I didn't get in on the first day as I was out and about that evening and in any case the web shop crashed. I'm in no big hurry though I could shoot off a roll somewhere interesting if it arrives in the next 10 days. I always reckoned on a May or June delivery date to be honest. I'm bewildered as to why anyone thought otherwise.

I've been going through slides I shot in the early 2000s, when Kodachrome was still around and when I could get hold of cheap slide film from Tura. There are some truly lovely images there, shot in places like Barcelona, Las Vegas, the Hoover Dam, Paris, London. Kind of makes me want to buy some E6 film and dust off one of my projectors should the right opportunity arise.

Pretty much the same here.

Just as a curiosity my receipt number is around 90xxx. I don't know if they started at number 1. It would be nice people who got the films and those who didn't if they posted their number in the format I posted.
Then you might get an idea how far down the line you are.

Mine is 91xxx, I don't have my film yet, either. Expecting to see it sometime in June, but I'm in no particular rush.

My order number was 911xx made at around 6am on 16th March (UK time).

No word as of 16th May but this was the earliest I expected any movement. I won't be upset if I am waiting in June.
