Just wanted to formally introduce myself. I've been reading the forums for a little while, and have been extremely impressed with the civility, the depth of knowledge and experience, and willingness to share that. I've been involved in photography for about 4 years, which started with me wanting to put into photographs the landscape and environment in Maine where I grew up. This led me to courses at the University of Maine, and then to Brooks in Santa Barbara, where I am now in my second year of the program. Landscape and nature photography is still a large (probably the largest) part of my personal work, which is nearly all in black and white, but I have branched about a bit recently working on figure studies and some still life as well. I shoot mostly 4x5, and a fair amount of 6x7, and recently I've started playing with my 35mm more as well. Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself and say hi to everyone, and say how much I enjoy having these forums and you folks around, it's truly a great resource.

Welcome Peter!

I can understand why you would want to document the landscapes of Maine...what a beautiful place! Hope you have a shot or two that you will be posting in the galleries!

Hi Peter and welcome to the forum......you've got a lot more social skills than me - I didn't discover the introductions forum until after I started posting

You gotta love 4x5" format - this is my chosen format too and I'm also studying photography, but in a different country. Enough about me on your introductory thread anyway!

Looking forward to seeing your work.

Best wishes,

Tom

Welcome Peter from western Mass. Went from the cold and icy Maine to Sunny Calif? There are days that I contemplate such a move! :D
We all hope you enjoy your visits to this great site.

I'm in the City of Homes, otherwise known as bankrupt Springfield, where the mayor is a figurehead and the governor controls the purse strings!

I remember reading about that when I was visiting my father around the 4'th. Look on the bright side though, at least you don't have a Governator
