The cheap camera thread reminds me of a video from a mid-west camera store just before the total solar eclipse. They put a Canon 4.0 500mm on a tripod, pointed it at the sun, then attached the cheapest body they had. Locked the mirror up and watched it go from smoking to melting while mentioning that pointing your camera directly at the sun could cause damage.

That sure beats my magnifying glass and dried leaves.

I liked they had the idea of attaching a ten dollar body to a ten thousand dollar lens.
Your magnifying glass probably cost less. Unless it has a red dot, then it’s totally worth it.

I admire the self restraint here! It was an excellent deal, but I've bought too many excellent deals that then collect dust. So I said ENUFF! Point being, you can get great cameras for such little money. Just ignore the dopes asking big money.

Also.. there was an N80 w Nikkor 35-70 AF 2.8 that just sold for $43. And again - I cried out ENUFF! I already have two..

Your keeping them from the hoarders is highly commendable. When we meet I will buy the dinner and drinks.

..

I also like doing it the other way round, and watch certain types go purple in the face and yell spittle in horror.

Since you folks brought it up, what about that 28mm lens. It is the one lens in the compact wide angle AF-D series I never picked up because it seems to me it is no better than the 'kit lens' 28-80 set at 28.

Any comments?

I use the Nikon f/3.5 28mm to 200mm AF zoom, and the Nikon f/2.8D AF 20mm to 35mm AF zoom. I also keep handy the Nikon 28mm PC manual lens I also have the 15mm AF lens, the 16mm Fisheye lens, the 20mm AF lens, the 24mm AF lens, the 35m AF lens, and recently aquired 150mm to 600mm Tamon AF lens with the 2x extender.

I had my 28/3.5 AIS lens chipped for use on my N-75 after hearing the mediocre reviews of the 28 AF version.

I bought it for a buddy.

It was $60 total, and I'll sell the lens for that and give the (now free) body to him. He is headed on a trip and wants a super portable SLR film camera he doesn't have to worry about. How the heck could I pass up that deal?
