HC-110, minimum syrup

I'm new to HC110 and doing some film testing.
I’m currently testing HP5+ and develop my film in JOBO.

The B solution, 1+31, gives 5 minutes development time, and reused to 4,25 according to the rotary tube. I would not try this short development time and want to try the D-solution, 1+63 for 8,5 min.
My question is: how much is the minimum of syrup for a 135-36 film?
One internet source says 3 ml and an other says 6 ml – and Kodak says nothing.

6 mL is what Kodak sez. Problem is that I forgot exactly where they sez it, so I can't direct you to it!

In my experience (with D-76, HC-110, and D-19), you can half what the manufacturer sez and still achieve totally normal contrast, and you can quarter it and have a compensating effect.

P.S. I am talking about the U.S. concentration. According to this Website (http://mysite.verizon.net/fowler/photo/hc110.htm), it looks like you can multiply the U.S. minimums by 3.2 to get the European minimums. Also, look how easy it is to measure using the European version versus the U.S. version!

The link Larry Manuel gave you is fantastic. I just started using HC-110 and used that as source for a lot of info. I believ the answer is 6ml. But, I also read something about different formulations of HC-110 in Eurpose and the US. Presumably you have the European version but you should verify that.

I have the US version of the syrup.
The link that Larry gives says minimum 6 ml for a 135-36 film
And the link from 2F/2F says minimum 3 ml for a 135-36.
- that’s the background for my question.

But, as 2F/2F says, I could always try both.

IIRC, part of the confusion arises from the fact that HC110 can be used either one shot, or with replenishment.

If you use the replenishment recommendations as a guide, extrapolation would indicate a minimum syrup volume of 3 ml per roll. If you use it one shot, 3 ml is too close to the theoretical limit, so 6 ml is recommended.

6 mL. And 5 minutes is not too short for a Jobo; I've done as little as 3 min without any problems (I use a prewet for B&W).

I use 10mL for 2 135-36 rolls (ends up being 1+63 dilution in my particular tank). I suspect that 3mL/roll should be fine. Even at the 1+63 dilution, dev times can be quite short for some films.

APUG is an amazing forum. Whatever question I have, I get answers in a few moments.

So to the processing;
I have decided to try the “H-solution” 1+63, and double the development time. According to the times for rotary tubes I’ll reduce the time form 10 min to 8,5 min – and try.

I'm afraid using the B-solution with 4,15 min development time will not be precise enough.

Until I get to know the developer I’l use min. 6 ml for each film.
