I have too many compact cameras. These were acquired because I wanted one, sometimes two among those advertised, and it was much less expensive to buy the job lot than individually. I could sell off 45 of the 50 I never use, but their monetary value is probably matched by the postal charge, so what's the point? I could dump them, but as they all work that seems unnecessarily wasteful. There's always the possibility 1980s and 90s compact cameras will become the next big thing, but I'm happy to give one away to visitors who show an interest - who are very few.
Regarding "proper" cameras, rangefinders, folders, SLRs and the like, I have sufficient for my need with a few left over. Some are used continually, some regularly, a few infrequently, but almost of all them get a film put through inside a year. At the time I bought the majority, ten years or so ago, film cameras were not expensive and I can only think of one occasion I paid over £50 for one (a Leica). When one camera ceases to work, which occasionally happens as they are a few decades old, I pick up another one. Any residual GAS has long since been expelled, and I'm content with my film gear.
