Have I wrecked my unexposed film??

Hello everybody. Like a fool, I accidentally left the heater on in my darkroom, for about 48 hours. This is where I store rolls of unexposed (and some exposed) 35mm film. I think the temperature reached around 33 degrees ... will this have wrecked the film? Any thoughts????

Hi Brian. Not ideal but not a disaster either. Guard against condensation, though.

48 hours at 90+F isn't great, but I doubt you've ruined the film.

I'd be surprised if you saw any difference at all. Are you shooting color film for Vogue? Short of that, 'wrecked' seems exceedingly unlikely.

Unless you stored your film directly on the heater, you should be OK.

Probably no problem at all.
Although assuming your location is London England, the experience of consistent warmth for that length of time may have completely confused the film .

I've shot a lot of film that's spent longer than that at higher temperatures than that. Worst case, you may have added some fog, but you probably won't notice,

I found some expired film in my dad's garage in a cabinet drawer (not cooled). He lived out in Murrietta, CA, and the garage regularly gets to 90-100 Deg. F in the summer. The film includes VPS III, expired 1990s; Kodak color infrared; Kodak P3200. I am probably not going to take any chances on any of it (especially the color infrared, which I think is E-4). Add: I suspect it has been there for 10 years or more.

If your case were an issue, then we in the West could not travel to the desert with our film (at least without a cooler or ice chest).

While not wonderful for the film, a short time period of heat like that will not damage for film nor the image. Put film in the glove box and leave it in the car for a hot summer and the results may not be so good.
