I just want your opinion I have been very careful with my purchases on eBay.But this time I am not sure. I bought X-Rite densitometer from"skybollin8" for $100. Not bad if I get it. But I see this same add again with the same wording from the same guy again on eBay. I don't know how to download the add from eBay maybe you can take a look at it?Ends at Jan/12/06.Should I already report to eBay to keep watch on this guy?

Good Evening, Greg,

I have no information on the item or the seller, but it might help someone else comment if you would simply give the Item Number.

Thanks Bob
That's the eBay number you indicated in your reply. The number is#7576747527.I contacted seller to find out if he has two units for sale. The only problem I have is his bad english sort of same as those eMails I received recently.

There's a reply on the auction now:

Q: looks like the same item as 7576747527, do you have more than one?
A: Yes, I had 8, now, only 3 left. Also, a Easeco TD-90 too.

Recently had the same problem, bought a lens for Nikon and a few days later the same item, including the same picture of a slightly used box showed up with the same starting price, was getting a little anxious but then my lens showed up in the mail. reread the listing and noticed that the guy had bought out a photoraphy store that was going out of bussiness and was selling off their inventory. Evidently he had several of each item.

I received two eMails from the seller stating he had two more densitometers for sale. Maybe a good opportunity for someone else on APUG, one that does not have a densitometer to get one for $100.I feel terrible jumping the gun on this one.But after those eMails couple weeks ago I thought I should prevent someone else getting burned.
Thanks again for providing support.

I think why he did not have any bids is because of the manual picture. But I read the add 30 times before I took a chance of loosing $120. If I get it it is a good deal.He said in the add it is worth $2000 so it could not be the manual or it would be mispresentation. But then I looked at the second add and started thinking he is trying to sell manuals for $100.Now that the money is on its way it is a waiting game.

His english is no good, but he took time to thank two of his four previous buyers. Maybe someone else can get the last 810 for cheap?

I have not received my X-Rite 810 densitometer yet but I noticed two more being offered on eBay for even better price than mine $50 starting price. I am not sure how to upload the link to it, maybe someone can?

eBay is a great place, but can be really difficult at times. In over 100 transactions buying and selling, I have only had a couple bad experiences. It is not unusual for certain sellers to use the same photos over and over again for similar items. This kind of ends up in a crapshoot when you finally get the item. I did business with an nsfw (globalmatter labs) for a Busch Pressman D once and got stung with an inferior camera completely different than the picture. He sells a lot of Graphics, Deardorff's, and high-end lenses that way. Impossible to deal with when there is a problem. He made the mistake of mass-mailing all of his previous customers at Christmas and it started a posting flurry amongst us that revealed over 30 bad deals that had never been publicly recorded against him for shill bidding and inferior product. Sometimes eBay follows up, sometimes they dont, and it sure is hard to get satisfaction at times.

Most experienced folks on eBay do not put a negative for a seller in when they have a problem because we know that the seller will retaliate with a negative.

I think it would be appropriate for me to publicly apologize to the Densitometer seller ,it arrived today in good shape with all necessary tablets and the instruction book pictured in the add. I feel like an A** for thinking automatically it was a scam. So there you have it I am really sorry and I think because you all chimed in it made me recognize that I could have been wrong.
Thanks to every one for your response and support.

Hey Greg,

it was a legit concern. Given the signs during the sale and the month wait, I don't think anyone will consider you as overboard on this. You've stated the retraction. If you really wanted to, you could edit your initial post so that someone who didn't read the entire thread would know.

If that is the actual instrument then I think that they are mistaken. The one pictured appears to be transmission only. It does not appear to have the reflection head.

Matt's link runs a search for any X-Rite 810 densitometer on ebay.com - which ones are listed will depend on when you run the search. The original ones discussed above will have all expired by now so will not show up. As far as I know, all X-Rite 810's are both reflection and transmission - the relection part is built into the sensor module on mine - not as a separate item.

Greg: thanks for coming back and telling us how well things turned out - I just collected one myself for almost exactly what you paid so I'm also quite densitometer-happy at the moment  My emailed communications with the seller were not good - his replies were short, lacked any warmth and he didn't use the CAPS key (which I generally take as a sign of someone who can't be bothered to even try to communicate effectively) so I was a bit cagey. Met him, and he was actually a nice guy...).

Cheers, Bob.
