Hassy 50/2.8 FE and Lee Filter adapter

My google-fu is failing me and I couldn't find the answer: does anyone know if the 86mm Lee adapter will fit onto the 50/2.8 FE? There is a mention on a photo.net therad that the 50/2.8 takes "coarse" thread. As I cannot test the adapter, I want to know before spending $70+.

I do not have experience with the FS lenses, but if they are like the CF lenses my experience is that you stick with the B60 or whatever size B bayonet filter is used for the FE lenses.

I have the F50mm f/2.8 (not the FE version, but it is identical to the v1 FE lens, without the data bus)

It has a 86mmx1mm filter thread, and comes with an adaptor that takes series 93 filters.

I removed the series 93 adaptor and am mostly using a conventional low profile 86mm UV filter. I believe deep 86mm filters may cause vignetting, hence the adaptor for the larger series 93 filter. As long as the Lee adaptor is not too tall, it should work....

Thanks guys. Yea, the 50/2.8 does not use the B-xx mount as it's too big? (B-86 ) My only concern is the thread pitch as one poster mentions about coarse thread. I am not worried too much about vignetting as there are "wide angle" low profile Lee adapters. I have sent an inquiry to Lee Filter, and hopefully they can give me a definitive answer.

Indeed, there is an 86 and an 86c filter thread standard. The first uses a 0.75 pitch, the "c" for "coarse" uses a 1mm thread.

Traditionally filters up to 39mm were 0.5mm pitch, and filters from 40mm ~ 82mm were 0.75 pitch (there are several exceptions).

Series Filter type lock rings usually used a courser thread (I'm not sure if it was metric or SAE, probably SAE)

Hoya lists their 86mm (and 95mm) filters with a 0.75mm pitch, B&W lists theirs with a 1mm pitch (86mm ~ 122mm).

The FE 50mm has a 1mm pitch. However, I have found that many filters with a 0.75mm pitch thread fine into the 1mm pitch lens thread - it's a function of the tolerance on the filter and the fact that you only thread it in a little over one complete turn. My Hoya filter threads in just fine with no binding (as do some others), but I have one (Toshiba I think) that starts binding before it bottoms. Ofcourse the B&W thread in fine. But what you really want to hear is that the Lee Filter adaptor ring threads in properly - unfortunately I can't tell you that (but I'm sure Lee can).


Coincidentally, I had a look at the Lee site, and they only list wide angle adaptor rings up to 82mm for the 100mm filters.
