I would really think about getting it if I couldn't simply crop my 6x4.5 or 6x6 or 6x7 or 6x9 medium format negatives to get effectively the same - if not "better" - results for insanely less money, while spending the same amount of money per frame shot, all whilst getting all the benefits of a system reflex camera, plus having the option to not crop if that is what I wanted for a shot or two!

It's not quite the same, from what I understand, at least up to 6X7. The frame is 24X65. From what I understand the lenses are designed to hold sharpness out to the frame edges. And of course it's much smaller and lighter than other medium format cameras. It also does give regular size 35mm images if wanted.

I, like others, would love to have one. If not for lack of cash induced by being laid off in this lousy economy, I'd be on it. I would be using a bunch of my remaining Kodachrome in it.

Thanks Bill...I'm not quite sure I see the point in blathering on about some other system, on a thread one has no intention of acting upon, but if nothing else it keeps the topic alive for people. Hopefully someone sees through that and recognizes a good deal on a stellar camera.

I really hate to think of going eBay on this. A complete PITA far as I'm concerned. I've bought and sold here before and not only is it much easier, I know it's going to fellow film fans...my preference by far.

It is a stellar camera. I just can't buy it now. I hope you sell it soon, no joke.

The market (as is demonstrated here) is not in favour of selling a thing like this. It's very much a buyer's market, and as you have noticed, not a lot of people are willing to have such a thing, let alone pay for it what could be considered a decent asking price. The vast majority of people isn't interested in buying a thing like this at all, and the people who would consider buying it know that the market is in their favour, and will not pay that much.
It appears that (not just with things like the X-Pan, but many other things too) we have a choice of either 'giving it away', or hanging on to it ourselves.

It's not hard to find X-Pans for sale. And most are offered for what would seem to be a quite reasonable (low, even) price. But it is nearly impossible to find ones that do sell for that price.

I sincerely wish you the best of luck, Colin.
But do think that if you must rid of it, you'd better prepare for more than just "a small loss".

My (limited) experience selling high ticket things on ebay has not been good. I might wait to make it a local, cash-in-hand sale.

My one huge regret in life is selling a primo craft acoustic guitar, I lost my shirt and will always mourn that guitar.

With respect, QG, enjoy your coffee. Your comments are unhelpful.

With KEH selling a bargain condition XPan body only for $1035 and Colin's price of $1800 for a near mint body AND a near mint 45mm lens, I'd say it's a fair price. If I had the dough, it would be mine. KEH is considered a good standard to go by for used gear prices. I never understand why the so called hasselblad experts think selling something for a fair price is objectionable. XPAN's are quite hard to come buy in good shape anymore, so why sabotage someone selling this gear? If it's too pricey, don't buy it or offer unwanted advice that will put others off. Get over it.

When you post anything in a public forum, you're open to criticism and discussion. This is overpriced, telling people to 'enjoy their coffee' isn't going to magically sell this.

I would be interested if it was an Xpan II and if I had the money which doesn't help. Problem is that so many think that the cheapest they see something sell on fleabay is what its market value is. Well thats just the cheapskate market value.
I tried selling a camera on fleabay but put a sensible starting price and there were no takers. So I wrote a little web page for myself and advertised it there. It took a few months but I eventually found a serious buyer who knew its real value and not the cheapskate price. But if you want to sell it fast then you have little choice.

Do you listen to yourselves? Colin is just trying to sell a camera that he no longer needs. He's asking a price that he thinks is fair. If you don't agree - why do you have to speak up? It's none of your f-ing business what price he wants to sell the camera at. If somebody wants to buy the camera at the price Colin is asking, they will show up. If not - you know the rest. Either Colin lowers the price until it sells or he keeps it. That part will take care of itself, with or without your help.

Just because you CAN comment on it, and no matter how much it's itching your ego to do so, it doesn't mean you SHOULD comment.

Didn't know we were still under censorship, sorry to hear that.

Apconan - are you trying to censor Thomas? Of course not. Neither is he censoring you. He is, however, pointing out the outrageous lack of courtesy and tact that this thread (and others like it) is producing.

Didn't your mamas ever give you folks the talk about what to do when not having something nice to say? (Sorry, Mom).

I don't know about censorship, but there are things like empathy and common decency. Empathy is a concept that is long forgotten and rarely practiced. These comments about the price did not help Colin in any way shape or form, instead it hampered his efforts. What could anybody here possibly gain from that? It's absolutely useless behavior that serves no purpose other than exercising the right to speak up. But what about responsibility? Responsibility to your fellow humans and photographers?

Ponder the following: Perhaps the seller is really desperate for cash. Perhaps he needs to have dental surgery or take care of an emergency. He really needs to sell his camera. Why do you want to argue with the price? What's the god damned point? How does it help?

It has nothing to do with censorship; it has to do with being a decent human being and treating others with respect and empathy. It saddens me to no limit that people just have to speak their minds, regardless of the consequences.

Folks - I'm making the extra effort to sell it through here for reasons I've already mentioned: I'm a big believer in APUG, had lots of terrific and positive experiences here, and would rather any commission from a sale go towards maintaining this site. I like APUG and am willing to put my money where my mouth is.

I think it's a fair price and definitely believe in the gear. You can disagree, that's fine, but in order to keep things positive and keep APUG a good place to be, let's keep unhelpful comments away. I do likewise for others, so...thanks again to all and I do hope a buyer can be found here. It truly is a superb bit of kit.

To be fair, Colin, you did express your dispair (almost) with us for not taking this thing off you.
All that happened is that you got the response that sollicited.

I still wish you the best of success selling the camera for what you think it is worth!

Colin-
I apologize to you for my part in steering this train wreck.
I'll post no further except to say, again, good luck to you and your eventual buyer.
Thanks.
